Relatively up to date (September 11 and law enforcement reactions, USA PATRIOT Act, etc.), and very informative, this textbook provides an excellent survey of the Criminal Justice System. The prose is streamlined, clear, and somewhat non-biased. Minor corrections may need to be made (e.g. the textbook states that the majority of female sexual assault victims do not know their attacker. . .), but these flaws are minor for a textbook of this scope. The book is extensively source documented, making it perfect for anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of the Criminal Justice System. The CD-ROM and online tools are comprehensive, and give the reader/student a more intimate view of the author's vision.

This is the best book I have read on Criminal Justice. It is fun to read and easy to enjoy. I advise anybody that is interested on the field of criminal justice to begin with this book.

I just started teaching a new criminal justice survey course where this text is required for the students. After reading it I have to say it is one of the best course-books on the subject that I have read or taught from.

Comprehensive at 750+ pages including many full color plates and an interactive CD-ROM. Topics include everything conventional (civics, criminal law & criminal procedure) as well as many current event criminal justice concepts including law enforcement cultural approaches to alternative religions like Santeria, the arrest of celebrities such as Courtney Love, and even distinguishing placement in the criminal justice hierarchy for "bounty hunters" such as Duane "Dog" Chapman.

I love it! Informative and instructional. Again, one of the best. Five stars.

I used this book last semester! Very good reading. It was easy to read and understand.

I thought this book was going to be in somewhat not so great condition!

How WRONG I was to think that! This book is in amazing condition and it
really helped me with my Introduction to Criminal Justice class!
It was convenient! I did not have to keep opening up the book online.
I take online classes and sometimes we are not given "textbooks" to use
physically. They download the books so that we can use them. The only
issue I have with this method is that when I need to look for information,
I have to keep opening up the book and it can be a pain in the keister!
When I saw the price of this textbook, I knew I had better order it, since
it was the last one available! I paid $.99 cents for it! The shipping and
handling was $3.99! AMAZING! :-)
Altogether, I paid a whopping $4.98 for a $150.00 textbook! Thank you,
Amazon.com for letting me purchase a very expensive textbook for a whole lot less! I would recommend using Amazon.com for ordering your textbooks!

I was required to purchase the 10th ed, but bought the 9th. This worked out perfectly fine for my class. This book is filled with information! I have been able to use this book as a resource for all my CRJ courses thus far. I have only ordered a couple other texts for CRJ, but this one by far has just about all the information I have needed, as it more than touches on every topic in criminal justices providing adequate information. I will not be selling this text back. This one is a keeper!

This textbook was very informative for me for my crj1 intro to criminal justice class. I felt that the textbook tried to be as neutral as could be and wasn't one sided as a lot of textbooks are. Plus I could actually understand everything the author was talking about...which was a big deal for me as this was my first criminal justice class. I learned a lot from this textbook and trust me I had to read every last word in this monster of a textbook. But it was worth it and I thank my professor who was a cop himself : ) They also added stuff about 9/11 like one previous reviewer said and tried to head in the modern age of where the criminal justice system was going. All in all, if you are interested in how our system works I suggest you buy this book. Oh and go online to their website. They have quizzes that help you test yourself on the material so you can really learn it. Plus, if you want to remember all the court cases he used as precedents then the quizzes will help you big time with that! They did for me...without them I would've had a harder time in the class. I give this book 2 thumbs up :)

It arrived sooner than expected in very good conditions. I saved a lot o money with this purchase because in my university's bookstore it was way too expensive.
