1986's Criminal Tango is one of the more intriguing titles in Manfred Mann's Earth Band extensive catalog. Not only is it filled with some of the more memorable cover versions in their four decade career, Criminal Tango is truly a rocking session that keeps their musical tradition alive.

This much applauded remastered disc opens with Paul Weller and The Jam's "Going Underground." Complete with the fiery keyboard of Manfred Mann along with the skillful guitar style of Mick Rodgers who returned to the band with this celebrated release. Chris Thompson gets star billing as well, as his vocals are second to none.

The bonus tracks are definitely worth shouting about as their classic rock and pop hit "Runner" makes the album worth its weight in gold. Plus additional rare versions of "Do Anything You Wanna Do" and the rare US 45 of "Rebel" only add to the dimension of this release.

Many people belived that Manfreed Mann's Earth Band called it quits after The Roaring Silence, and who could blame them. After the sucess of the single Blinded by the Light, Not much was heard from the band. They continued making albums, but the music publics taste were constantly changing, and Manfred MAnn's music was left in the way side.But in 1986, The Band came out with an effort that is unbelieveable to the ears. This album should have put Manfred Mann back on the map, but sadly they didnt have the push from a major reord label to get them noticed. This album is full of energy, and is complimented from the vocals of Chris Thompson, who sang on Blinded by the Light. Every song has an interesting hook, especially Do Anything You want to do, The Beatlesque Talk to me, The driving Myster kids and etc. You will discover what the 80's were all about on this cd. A masterpiece from the closet

Spirit of old MMEB is almost gone.More it is like tipical 80's pop-rock.
Kind of dissapoitment,but not totally.

Since Manfred Mann became progressive, he and his band have been able to provide us with great music. This CD is no exception despite being more on the commercial side. Being partial to good vocals, I recommend this CD since Chris Thomson is at the mike.
