Crimson (Dead World, Book 3)

Okay so I have now read this series and have some observations, SPOILERS AHEAD. This will also be a list/ramble type review, my apologies for the chaos.

1. No one in any of these books has a lick of sense. They stumble around filled with false bravado, the bad guys are sloppy and stupid, the good guys are oblivious and stupid. And everyone consistently makes the wrong choice, and that is how the plot moves around. Everyone trusts too easy, lies at the wrong times, and I could feel the desire to strangle half the characters.

Red flits from being psycho and overconfident, to whiny and helpless. Hunter is all alpha-male, but then leaves her to go deal with his clone family (2nd book) which seemed contrived as all hell. Rapheal falls in love with Chaos in about a second, and everyone is concerned but not concerned enough that creepy Michael Travers, who is now insane, won't double cross them.

Chaos is an annoying character with a cool ability she does not use nearly enough, and she also is damselly, a half wit, and also not that likeable. Demery could have resolved a lot of issues if he had just told the truth, and Morgan would not get kidnapped if he did not fall for a ruse that Bugs Bunny has used.



2. So we are in the future. And it's all post apocalyptic, and I like that. But then it's killed by everything being called synth-beer, and synth-paper. You build a future world, fill it out more. I like the dome lives, and the water's sparseness, the hovering cars and all of that. The gritty desert landscapes. it's interesting, but I feel like the author did not throw herself into the world building as much as she could have.

3. It is apparently very easy to go back and forth thru no man's land. Also relatively easy to survive there, even the bad guys are fairly hospitable.

4. The sex is pretty good and pretty hot, but I wish there had been a lot more time with everyone roughing it out in no man's land. And what it really means to be an Unknown and all that, instead of constant humping on the part of Chaos and Rapheal,

All in all she is not a bad writer, and has some interesting ideas that make her work memorable in such an oversaturated genre. It is just frustrating when I see potential to work with some really cool, really unique ideas, and they don't live up to it.

I really liked this series, slightly different than what I usually read, but really got into it. One thing that bugged me though was the woman they used on all of the book covers. She had really short hair, when in the books the woman was constantly pulling her long hair into a pony tail. Whoever did the art for the covers didn't read the stories! All in all, this book tied everything up neatly to end the series. I would recommend the series.

In this third saga of the `Deadworld' series, Morgan Hunter, Gina `Red' Santiago, and a vampire named Demery as a guide enter `no man's land' trying to find evidence to clear their names. Their nemesis, Roark Montgomery seems untouchable. To make matters worse Demery plans to guide them into the clutches of a nomadic tribe called the Sand Moles who drink the blood of `Others' like Red and Morgan as ransom for someone he loves. No man's land is home to the most vicious criminals on the planet. Commander Santiago, Red's Grandfather, okays a plan for Catherine `Chaos' Meyers to find Red with vampire Raphael Vega's help. They encounter Raphael's brother, Michael Travers Vega, during the search, unaware that Roark has had a deadly chip inserted into Michael's head and that Michael is there to kill Red and Morgan. The twists and turns in this gritty series roundup lead to a violent climactic confrontation and a very satisfying final judgment for Roark Montgomery.

Former International Police Tactical agent Gina "Red" Santiago and ex sheriff alpha Morgan Hunter are on the run from the law for crimes they did not commit. They need hard core evidence to prove they are innocent but law enforcement is not willing to give them the time.

Thus Red and Morgan venture inside the No Man's wasteland where the Others and even more dangerous nomads roam freely to kill. A place where the lethal barbaric residents kill first and the two newcomers are perfect targets. To keep her beloved Morgan safe, Red must release her animalistic werewolf side, but somehow she also must control the beast from taking over her human essence. A schizoid Red fears either option will harm her mate, but Rourke is coming for them and he leaves her with no choice.

The third strong post apocalyptic science fiction thriller (see RED and SCARLET) CRIMSON continues the deadly trek in the world of Jordon Summers; this time the journey is into the dead zone of a depleted planet earth. The lead couple is terrific as survival depends in the short run of kill or be killed while in the long run they need to find proof of their innocence before the evil villainous Rourke finds them. Although it helps to read the previous two novels to better understand how devastated the planet is by 2160 due to the pandemic environmental disaster of the early previous century and what has happened to America now divided into independent republics, it is not necessary as CRIMSON stands alone although it also adds to the overall theme of a super saga.
