5.0 out of 5 stars A great purchase, great book, little money
If you play the RPG, this book it's an excellent element for your campaign, and if you don't, please don't hesitate BUY IT NOW!!.I read the spanish version (I'm from Argentina) and i think it's one of the best books I have ever read. Also the entire saga of Pent Prism books is just great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kind of slow...
The big problem with this book is that we focus totally on Rikus and the battle to save Tyr against the armies of Urik. His army, a ragtag mixture of former slaves, templars, and nobles, is interesting, but the infighting becomes a drag. There are battles after battles yet it seems that the action seems to slow down the plot, as the characters don't get a chance to...

The big problem with this book is that we focus totally on Rikus and the battle to save Tyr against the armies of Urik. His army, a ragtag mixture of former slaves, templars, and nobles, is interesting, but the infighting becomes a drag. There are battles after battles yet it seems that the action seems to slow down the plot, as the characters don't get a chance to develop. Frankly, I almost skipped to the third book. It feels almost like Troy Denning let somebody else write the second book and then just slapped his name onto the cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome plot, it really shows what DS is like, September 27, 1998
By A Customer
From the beginning I was hooked. This book is full of action and high powered adventure. It takes you through the rollercoaster ride of the greatest hero in DS, Rikus of Tyr. He is a true hero and I admire him and his courage. As one of my favorite all time boos. I highly reccomend it to anyone who likes high adventure and fantasy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reading for fantasy fans!, January 17, 2000
By A Customer
The world of Dark Sun gets better with The Crimson Legion. This is by far the best fantasy series I have ever read. From the characters to the action to the unique magic - Dark Sun will never stop surprising you. Rikus, a former gladiator, wages war and allies himself with a variety of creaures unlike the classic elves, dwarves, and humans of most fantasy books on the shelves. Although this is not the best book in the series it is a must read for any serious fantasy fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars HECKA SCARY WORLD THAT IS ATHAS, February 26, 2002
I really enjoy this series. The world of Athas is bleak, unforgiving and downright frightening. This book is chock full of action and fighting. Former slaves and gladiators track down an opposition army throughout the deserts of Athas. It culminates in a battle that is fantastic.

Side note: The halfling assasins are terrifying in this book! I'll never look at a Hobbit the same way.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Book 1, but still entertaining, April 12, 2011

This review is from: The Crimson Legion: Prism Pentad, Book 2 (Paperback)
I have to say this book was a little bit of a let-down from the first (and excellent) book The Verdant Passage: Prism Pentad, Book 1 in the Prism Pentad series. Mostly because it only has Rikus from the original book, and while he is a great, savage, and courageous character, I think there may have been too much of him in this book. It seems like it takes the whole book to do something that should have taken a lot less pages - but I guess it's all part of the journey. This is particularly noticeable with the things and people that happen to Rikus. There is some more great stuff in here about the ancient history of Athas, which is always great for me to read, having never played the Dark Sun D&D setting itself. This book reminded me of some of the more monotonous Warhammer books, in that it seemed like it was just one battle scene after another. I'm still sticking with the series though, and can't wait to read The Amber Enchantress (Prism Pentad, Book 3).

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for bloody killing, November 14, 1997
By A Customer
The best book of the PRISM PENTAD. It teaches readers that a general does not only have to have a strong arm, but stretegic planning, as Rikus finds out. An interesting turn out with great plot. Lots of killing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the rest of the series -- still worth reading, April 1, 1997
By A Customer
I don't know why, but I just couldn't get into this book as much as I could the rest of the series. The only reason I still recommend it is because the events that take place in this book are referred to in later, better-written, books in the series. Skim through it and get on to The Amber Enchantress. :-

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent book in a great series, May 2, 1999
By A Customer
Though this book lacked much of the strength that was in the first book in the series (I'm sorry I forgot the title), the heroes are still great. The many scenes of the battle are great, but Rikus' character still got on my nerves as he performed one stupid act after another. The final battle in Urik was great and the finish was excellent. Though my DM strongly disliked this series for it made any hero second to the exploits of Rikus, Agis, and Sadira, I still found it to be a most excellent series. The only problem is that if I were to write on my own parties actions in Dark Sun they would contradict almost everything in this series. ::Shrug:: Oh well.
