5.0 out of 5 stars stunning sequel!, June 21, 2002
This review is from: Crimson Night (Paperback)
Trisha Baker once again had me entralled with her story of reluctant vampire, Meghann O'neill and her battles with her master simon Baldevar.Baker is a skillful writer because she could had taken the easy route and just have this novel like it's predecessor with endless scenes of Simon chasing and terrorizing Meghann but no Baker does something I thought could never happen she makes Simon likable! Yes you read it right those of you who read the first book like myself was shocked at the depths of evil and depravity that Simon was capable of and his obessive and terrifying love of Meghann. Baker allows us to see Simon's history on how he became a vampire and why he did the horrible things that he done. When Meghann becomes pregnant
Simon becomes more human in his love and concern toward Meghann and their unborn child. He even saves her life against his fanatical enemies! This novel gives us a Simon's history which takes place in Elizabethan England and it shows how he and Alcuin became deadly enemies.Baker's novel has gruesome scenes of battle between vampires and bloodletting. Simon is still a monster but in Baker's capable hands he becomes sympathetic...

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!, April 30, 2002
By
This review is from: Crimson Night (Paperback)
Meghann O'Neill had been transformed by Lord Simon Baldevar to be his consort. In Crimson Kiss, the readers saw Meghann's story. Readers learned first hand all the horrors Meghann endured as she fought to escape him. In this book, we continue the story.

Lord Baldevar vowed to get Meghann back! Meghann would be the one to help him achieve the philosophers' stone. Meghann was pregnant with his child. Without his help, she would die. When it became obvious that she would allow herself and her unborn child to die instead of asking for his dark help, Simon intervened. To save the lives of her friends, she would spend time with him and allow him to aide her during the pregnancy.

While with Simon, Meghann slowly learned all about Simon's history. Fight as she may, she began to understand what made him become as he was. The more she learned, the more she slipped back under his spell!

***** Last book was Meghann's story. This book tells Lord Baldevar's side! As evil as Simon is, even I found myself soften toward him. Trisha Baker gives her characters life, figuratively speaking, and an uncanny depth that I longed to understand as I read. Highly recommended! *****

4.0 out of 5 stars The best of the three, February 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Crimson Night (Paperback)
Having now read all three in the trilogy, my personal opinion is this is the best of them. This book had a stronger romantic element, while still carrying the darker themes of the other two books. Simon Baldevar's character truly comes to life in this installment, and Meghann's pain and confusion translates to the reader. The story was sweet, sensual, and terrifying all at once.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Crimson Night (Paperback)
trisha baker has done it again. she has created yet another amazing book! it had been a year since i first read crimson kiss. since then i had long awaited for the sequel. after finally getting the book, i couldn't put it down. even though simon was a mean and domineering fiend i still soften towards him. he had changed his ways and made meghann fall in love with him once again. crimson night made me realized all the agony simon went through when he was still a mortal. and that he was cruel for many reasons. i cried even more in this book. especially at the end when simon is taking in some of her pain into him so she wouldn't have to suffer. and when he tells her he has to leave. i was so furious at simon for wanting to leave meghann. but when i found out why, i was ever so touched. trisha baker is an amazing writer nad for those who love to read i truly recommend you to read her two books. and i hope that her final book to the crimson trilogy will be a huge thriller as the first two were.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who Would have Thought?, August 4, 2002
By
This review is from: Crimson Night (Paperback)
I picked up both of Ms. Bakers novels, Crimson Kiss and Crimson Night at the same time. Crimson Night is one book that is just a thrilling ride of chills and thrills. It's very rare that an author takes you from both ends of the spectrum from hate to love and actually makes you believe it, that in the first book Crimson Kiss Simon is a vicious depraved fiend and in this book you actually want him to get the girl. I must admit I thought Simon Baldevar was just a real Mr. Nasty and a vile beast of a man and for MS. Baker in her second book Crimson Night, make me like him and actually feel sorry, and see his tender loving side is indeed is a writer's gift to their readers. The hero and the heroine are definitely at odds and what's makes this book unique is that though it a horror book it's got it all, suspense, thrills, horror, vampires, sexy men, romance, and sex. All thrown in a supernatural format that readers will not want to put this book down. I am not a big fan of horror and this book is one you must not miss. I encourage you to read her first book Crimson Kiss, for I my self had to re-read it when I finished Crimson Night just so I could clarify a few things. Its spine chilling and it's a one seater, so turn off the phone, bring of the munchies for you will not want to be disturbed while reading this book. I look forward to her next installment of Megan and Simon, but my only draw back is that in the back of both books its gives a web address for Ms. Baker, which apparently it does not work. So Ms. Baker get a web site for your fans, hmm maybe you could post a teaser and post the first three chapters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Sequel, May 12, 2003
This review is from: Crimson Night (Paperback)
"Crimson Night" is a great sequel to the incredible book "Crimson Kiss" by Trisha Baker. I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one, if not a little bit more. This book gives you more background information about Simon Baldevar, the ruthless yet charming lead character. I was also very touched by the way he treated the love of his life, Meghann O'Neill, with so much love and adoration while she was pregnant.

Although Simon is a killer, fiend, and tormentor, you can't help but feel sorry for him as he reveals his past to Meghann. The stories about how his father and incompetent brother wanted to control and force him into a life which would have driven him mad, made my heart go out to him.

Not only did he show a great deal of love for Meghann, but he also revealed a softer side when entrusted in the help of Lee Windslow, a mortal doctor, and Charles Tarleton, Meghann's close vampire friend. Given the fact that Simon and Charles were enemies, it was nice to see that he was accepting of Charles and Lee because they made Meghann happy. I also loved the way he treated his daughter with so much love and tenderness that it was hard to believe that this was the same man.

I don't want to give too much away, but if you want to read an incredible book, read "Crimson Kiss" first, then read "Crimson Night"! You will definitely not be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Five Star Book!!, August 24, 2008
By
Holly R (Las Vegas, NV) - See all my reviews
(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Crimson Night (Paperback)
Trisha Baker's Crimson Night is more than a worthy sequel to her first book, Crimson Kiss. She follows almost exactly where she left off in, only from Simon Baldevar's POV. We still hear some of Meghann's thoughts but this one is about Simon countering all the gossip and history that Alcuin told Meghann and continues the love story between these two fated characters.

The story picks up with Simon and Jimmy, with Simon confessing his sins and intentions to him. He explains to Jimmy that maybe he may have taken things a tad bit too far with Meghann that night she left him on the roof, but he was never going to kill her. Silly girl didn't realize he was merely chastising her. HA! (sick ba*ta*d) Meanwhile, Meghann is now pregnant and in desperate need of Simon, she needs to drink his blood. Only he can sustain her during her pregnancy and so has the opening he needs to worm his way back into her life. Even though Charles disapproves of her reemerging feelings for him, not even he and his new love Dr. Lee Winslow can break Simons hold over her. It seems nothing can, because she loves him. Simon is hoping Meghann will give birth to a sort of 'daywalker' vampire. He's wanted a child desperately, since his mortal life, and also to sample some of the child's blood, in the hopes he too can walk in the sun. The pregnancy angle allowed Trisha Baker to introduce all sorts of baddies, Simon trying to be the good guy and win back Meghann, so he was not available for this book. And he is. She brought back all the tender affections that I loved about Simon. He's almost never nasty to Meghann. It could be because she's pregnant for the better part of the book, but he's trying to make a change for her. He tells her though, her love for him won't change what he is, but with her in his life he will try to become a better person. We are treated to more in depth description of the world Trisha Baker has created, especially with the Druid arts and the Black Magic Simon uses. Also, Alucin makes constant reappearances throughout the book as Meghan's sort of spirit guide on the astral plane. Trisha Baker also hints as to Alucin's motives regarding her, was he her friend or was he using her to strike at Simon?
The end of the book cuts off on a sad note. After everything that had happened, after finally acknowledging what they feel for each other, it was very sad to read how Trisha Baker ends the book, but at least I know I have the third one ready and waiting.

The violence is nowhere near as palpable as Crimson Kiss. This one reads more as a gentle wooing of Meghann, and it also brings out a playful side in Simon that we haven't seen before. The violence comes more from outside forces, vampires out to kill Meghann and her baby and an increasingly annoying Jimmy Delacroix. Simon turns into a strong protector here and a brave, capable knight. He slips easily into the role, sweeping Meghann off her feet.

Again, Trisha Baker continues to amaze me with her ability to weave such an enchanting book. So far her Crimson books are top notch, creating a vivid, gritty, and seductive world. Lord Simon Baldevar is still an evil man, still a dominating presence that neither I nor Meghann can shake off. Even though I really like Meghann, and find her a very worthy heroine, my fascination with these books lies with Simon. He is still incredibly charismatic. His aura leaps off the pages, so tangible you can almost taste it. (I wish)

Next up is Crimson Shadows, the third installment in Trisha Baker's Crimson series and I can't wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Night, August 10, 2008
This review is from: Crimson Night (Paperback)
I just want to say that it's a shame these books are out of print because they really are pretty decent.

I was very interested in finding out if Ms. Baker would be able to make Simon likable. Considering his shockingly despicable behavior in the previous book, it certainly seemed an incredibly difficult task. But not impossible. Because despite his endless flaws, Simon was charming. He held a quality that made you want to know more about him. What has made him this way. And to have the question "Who is he, really?" finally answered.
I have to say that it took guts for Baker to write Simon as a leading man. She took a risk of alienating her readers and discouraging people from continuing on with the series. But thankfully she's a good enough writer that she made it work. Plus, i'm attracted to dark character.

Crimson Night is Simon's book in more ways than one. I knew this going in and feared that Baker would take the easy way out. That she would give him some sob story of a background meant to make us pity him.
But she didn't. Instead of making the horrible stories we heard about him be completely untrue, she simply made them be just a small part of a bigger picture. And Simon made no apologies. He wanted no pity.

I really enjoyed this book although I wish I had stopped with this one. I assure you, the third book is a travesty.

5.0 out of 5 stars BreathTaking Novel, April 17, 2008
This review is from: Crimson Night (Paperback)
Trisha Baker has created a masterpiece! For the people that haven't red the first book of the series "Crimson Kiss" i recomend that you read it,before this one.Two reasons for that.Firstly,i don't believe that this book stands alone. And secondly there is a lot of surprise if you have met Simon and Megan Previously.
Megan is pregnant and the father is Lord Simon Baldevar. We have left Simon,a definately Gamma Male, being the crudest, moraless, creepy, cruelest, phycho hero that the paranormal romance has ever created.Megan is devastated that after her constant strugle to escape from him, finds herself enternaly bonded with the guy.She tries to come to terms with the fact(not mildly of course) and then the miracle happens.
I mean, that if i haven;t red the first book, then i would be positive that the heroes are not the same.
Through the whole book,we learn how Simon became a vampire, his past and his strugle to survive.
It is a magnificent book and definately the best of the trilogy

I have read, read, and re-read this series of books. Trisha Baker has captured the epitome of what a vampire novel/book should be. She has created a story that is the perfect blend of horror, heart, excitement, and sexy romance. This is my favorite of the 3! I would tell ANYONE, especially those of you who love these types of books, to put down whatever you're doing and read these immediately. They will, without a doubt, become some of your favorites, as they have mine. I have bought and sold a lot of books but I refuse to let these out of my possession!
