Sad but true,

This review is from: Crimson Slide: Why Alabama Football Fell and How It Can Climb Back to the Top (Paperback)
Flax really hits the Tide hard in this book. Unfortunately, he's right on. It's too bad that Bama fell from the top but at least someone took the time to write about it. A good read. The writing is good for this type of book. The passion shows. After reading other reviews on Amazon it's only fair to say that Flax is writing about football...don't compare him to Faulkner or Hemingway. He's young enough to have a chance at those two and a whole lot more before he's done. Definitely worth reading. Roll Tide!!!

Flax lays so many things out there that it's hard to tell what to think about it. After this ran on Feinbaum's show and after reading it, who knows if what he says is true. It's very interesting and I can't doubt that it's possible that Stallings left Alabama angry, that DuBose was a failed powermonger, and that Price just wasn't quite cut out for Bama. Can Shula bring the team back around? Who knows, but Flax thinks he'll have to be a hard-[baller] to do it. It's going to take more than the last three coaches have done, that's for sure.

Southern Football Culture,

The South is definitely more fanatical about football than any other part of the country. This former player's passion about the topic reflects this concept. This book marks the end of the Alabama legacy during the DuBose/Franchione era.A great preface to the upcoming Crimson Tide revival...

I gave this book to my dad, and he loves it! Now I'm thinking about buying some more for the other hard-to-shop-for men I know. A must-read for anyone interested in Alabama football (whether your'e a fan of the team or not). Check it out!

an insider's look at Bama,

My family always loved Alabama's Crimson Tide football. This book is full of details to support the author's opinions. Although Mike Flax is hard on Bama's problems and he does not hesitate to lay blame where he sees it, you can tell he reveres the Tide. Alabama has to get past Bear Bryant - keep his legacy & zeal to win but move on into the new season. Mike Flax seems to know this. I hope the coaches & administration down there will heed some of Flax's advice.

The Tide is Low,

This is a fun book for anyone interested in Alabama football. It's actually refreshing to pick up a book that (1) is not dedicated to the distant glorious past and (2) is willing to expose the successes and failures (mostly the latter) of recent exploits in Tuscaloosa. The author's writing is not to be confused with Hemingway or Faulkner; however, he does just fine for this sort of book. I hope the author continues to revise and update for future editions. Perhaps "Crimson Slide" will someday have a happy ending.

Just not alot of meat or new information in this book, Very disappointed of the coverage of the Price firing, there was like 1 or 2 pages devoted to it. Overall, the book is not a bad read, but there just isn't a ton of new information here and the "inside" sources appear to be a couple of his old roommates. Could have been alot better.
