Book Description

Crimzon & Clover by M. R. Mathias

It isn't wise to mess with a girl and her dragon, at least not these two.

A young dragon, named Crimzariathon, loses his mother to lair raiders and is left to fend for himself. A lucky girl, aptly named Clover, happens upon him and together they form a lasting bond. When more men come to raid the lair the two are forced to defend themselves, and each other, in a wicked battle. Magic, swordplay, and dragon riding glory await in this satisfying 25 page short story.  Crimzon & Clover One - Orphaned Dragon, Lucky Girl, is also available as a FREE Audio Book MP3 Narrated by Christine Padovan (( goo.gl/6PfMR ))  This is a great read along combo!

Snippet:
The cool night air rushed over them as they circled slowly upward on Crimzon's strong, steady thrusts. In the dragon's head his mother's soft voice whispered both instruction and encouragement, and the feeling of Clover on his back gave him the confidence and reassurance he needed to avoid falter.

They climbed so high into the sky that Clover thought she just might be able to touch the stars twinkling above them. Her blood was electric with sensation. Her skin was chilled by the rushing air and her stomach was tingling as if full of wiggling snakes. She drew in a deep breath trying to calm herself but it was no use. Just as soon as she exhaled Crimzon rolled to the right and then dove sharply, leaving the wiggling snakes from Clover's belly lumped in the back of her throat. Her mind was spinning like a whirlpool.

Far below, the majesty of the moonlit valleys and the hue of colors reflecting from the rocky snow-capped ridges unfolded before them. Clover marveled at the dozens of rivers and streams that glittered like strands and pools of molten gold. The force of the air pressed hard against her as Crimzon dove. She began to feel dizzy and distant, but before she slipped into unconsciousness, the dragon leveled out and sped them across the treetops at such speed that all Clover could see below was a shadowy blur. Soon their momentum died away and Crimzon began to circle and rise again, but now at a more relaxed pace. Clover was glad. She felt rubbery and nauseated. Sick or not she had to admit that it was the most exhilarating experience she had ever had.

A flash fiction short story called 'The Blood of Coldfrost' and a short preview of 'The Royal Dragoneers' novel are included in this download as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic dragon magic at work March 11, 2011
By Wist
Format:Kindle Edition
"...the world is but a playground for a girl with a dragon."

Crimzon and Clover is a satisfying fantasy to enjoy. M.R. Mathias brings a classic feel of magic to this short story of a young dragon out of luck and a girl with some to share that will leave you wanting to follow them to where the skies take them next.

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked most of it. May 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Story and Structure:
Well written, tidy and well worked plot. I liked the interaction and I thought that it started very strong.

Formatting and Typos:
Tidy throughout. No mistakes in grammar or spelling that I could note.

Characters:
I liked Clover more than the dragon. Each character was distinct and had a decent backstory, but Clover was definitely the star of the show for me.

Combat and Tension:
It was excellent. When Crimson let loose midway I was engrossed. The Mage scene was also really fun.

Unique Element:
Luck. Read it to find put more.

Ending:
It was rushed. I thought that we deserved a little more closure before the end. I also think this is a promotional work for the author's further work, which looked pretty interesting from the sample (I'm still considering buying it - not a long story man.)

Overall Rating:
5/5. I admit I really liked it. It had all the right elements for enough of the story for me to be satisfied. Time well spent and I'll pick up the next one when it comes out.

Recommendation:
Buy it. It's a good read.

"Crimzon & Clover I - Orphaned Dragon, Lucky Girl" is the first in a series of short fantasy adventures by author M. R. Mathias. This Kindle e-book was a 168 Kb download (approx. 51 printed pages) and was free (normally $1.00) at the time of righting this review.

This tale took up approximately 41% of the download, the remainder was excerpts of other books by the same author.

<spoilers>

This tale tells of a hatchling dragon, Crimzon, (whose mother has be killed) and an adventurer, Clover, who discovers the abandoned creature and provides him not only with sustenance but also a budding friendship. As they develop their relationship they encounter a group of treasure hunters who are hell bent and determined to discover the fabled dragon's lair.

Some thoughts on "Crimzon and Clover"...

1.) an adventure that many might consider in the Young Adult (YA) genre. Regardless, I really enjoyed this short work as it was generally well written and exciting... it just didn't have the same depth and diversity that fantasy readers might expect to find in a full length adult fantasy adventure.

2.) intriguing, eye-catching cover.

3.) Crimzon's hissing dialect had many words ending with 'esses'.... an annoying characteristic that you'd probably find in a YA tale as opposed to an adult fantasy story. I couldn't imagine this speech pattern for a full length novel.

Conclusion:
A fun fantasy adventure featuring a young dragon and a female adventurer. Short, well written and interesting. Just long enough.

3 1/2 Stars.

This is a really short story. It's not a book. If you buy on kindle beware, you don't really see that it's a short story.

From the Author
The jewel you see glowing in the ring in my old authors photo isn't really a jewel at all. It is the crystallized tear of a real dragon. In my novel "The Royal Dragoneers" you might find the moment where this wonderfully magical tear drop fell from a green dragons eye. It hardened on its way down to land in a mess of troll corpses that the dragon was laying on.

My grandfather died before I was born, but the ring was given to me by my mother, after my grandmother recently died. My grandfather had apparently won it in a poker game near the Red River between Texas and Oklahoma sometime in the early 1900's.

It has been a boon, the magic of the teardrop, for it brought you here to me didn't it? Now treat yourself to something fantastic and try out the free sample of one of my novels. I hope you enjoy the journey. It will be spectacular. Thanks M.R. Mathias
