I'd say this was a little milder than the Cavalla variety. It doesn't have any added spice (like the Maya or Pumpkin Spice kinds do). I like to have this with a couple of packets of artificial sweetener and a dash of skim milk (it's kind of bitter without that). It's like drinking hot cocoa without all the guilt. (I even bought a coffee maker so I could brew this, and I've been drinking this stuff at least six days a week.)
This is a vegan product and should be suitable for people with a variety of food allergies, since the ingredients list is so simple (zoom in the product images for more information). It smells delicious as soon as you open the bag and, while it's brewing, my whole kitchen smells like chocolate.
The package indicates you should use a metal permanent coffee filter. Having tried both paper and metal filters, I'd agree. Crio Bru has some natural oils that coffee doesn't, and the oils tend to clog up paper filters.
I use three tablespoons of Crio Bru and about 5 "cups" (i.e., "cups" according to the markers on my coffee machine reservoir) of water to make two mugs' worth. This is a value I had to experiment with for awhile to figure out what worked for me -- it may not be the same for everyone.
In the end, though, I love this stuff and will definitely be buying it again.

It's good, but I can get almost the same drink for less $ by steeping Hershey's cocoa in hot water and filtering it. I prefer coffee and tea. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Andy G.
