JOHN R. MABRY lives and writes in Oakland, CA, in a house he shares with his wife and dogs. He is a United Church of Christ minister, and currently serves as pastor of Grace North Church ( in Berkeley, and Our Redeemer Lutheran in Oakland. He is the Director of the Spiritual Direction Program at the Chaplaincy Institute ( where he teaches theology, ministry, spiritual direction, and world religions. He also teaches for the Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministry at Santa Clara University. He sings for Metaphor ( and Mind Furniture (, two Bay Area progressive rock bands.
