Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

When humans colonized Doona they thought it to be uninhabited. When they discovered another race--the catlike Hrrubans--the two races decided to forego their traditional isolationism and try to share the planet. That treaty is up for review 25 years later, and a conspiracy is afoot to discredit Todd Reeve and Hrriss, best of friends, who have come to symbolize the human/Hrruban cohabitation and, by extension, the treaty. McCaffrey and Nye (coauthors of The Death of Sleep ) return to the setting of McCaffrey's 1969 Decision at Doona for a novel that falls far short of their previous works. The good guys (Todd, Hrriss and their families and friends) are so noble and upright and true and the bad guys (Admiral Landreau--who has a longstanding grudge against the Reeve family and the Hrrubans--and his flunkies) are so irredeemable that any interest in the conflict is lost. Interactions between catlike aliens and humans have become a stock element in the SF genre, and McCaffrey and Nye have nothing new to add.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the original, July 19, 1999

This review is from: Crisis on Doona (Paperback)
Here we find that Todd and Hrriss, two characters who became best friends as children in "Decision at Doona", are still best friends 25 years later and have become role model citizens. But suddenly they are accused of some serious crimes just as the agreement between the Humans and the Hrrubans is up for renewal, and as a result the continued existence of their shared colony world is in jeopardy. No one who knows the two very well believes for a minute that they've committed the acts they're accused of, but the body of evidence against them that will be used to hold them in judgement seems to be mounting up. A riveting tale of mystery and suspense.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful sequel to "Decision at Doona"!, March 11, 1998

Ms. McCaffrey has chosen a good companion in J.L. Nye. They work well in this sequel to the original Doona book. This series is one of my favorites from the mind of one of the best. As with Pern, she brings the land and the people alive. Here's hoping there will be many more on this series!

I didn't know Decision at Doona had any sequels. Now I can't wait to read this one. The book is in great condition, and makes a good addition to my Anne McCaffrey collection. Linda
