Great moder opera recording, May 17, 2009

I must hank the folks at Opera Nights or I never would have heard about this opera by contemporary Spanish composer Christobal Halffter \which is performed by the all Spanish cast including baritone Enrique Bacquerios as Don Quixote. Even though it doe not have a plot per se it consists of seven scenes concerned about the mythfication of Don Quixote, it is actually quite pleasant to luster to. The chorus is quite profound I this recording acting as a Greek Chorus commenting on the action. The music is quite appropriate for Don Quixote and is frequently quite loud commenting on his insanity. There are many moments of tenderness when violins accompany Don Quixote as he sings about his love of Dulicinea. The scene where his niece describes her love for him when they burn the books and the death of Don Quixote. I would recommend these CDs to anyone interested in modern opera .Please excuse any typos I have a neurologic disease.
