Highly recommended to all readers with an interest or understanding of the culinary arts,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cristina's of Sun Valley (Hardcover)
Cristina's Of Sun Valley, deftly authored by Cristina Ceccatelli Cook is an interesting collection of reflections of the life and experiences of the author, as well as an outstanding cookbook of simple, elegant, palate pleasing, appetite satisfying dishes. Drawing upon her many years of experience and expertise, Cook's understanding of her boundaries in cooking spread beyond that of most, as readers will discover in Cristina's Of Sun Valley among other interesting tales of what made the extraordinary woman who she is today. Cristina's Of Sun Valley is very highly recommended to all readers with an interest or understanding of the culinary arts, particularly those looking for an intriguing story to accompany such "kitchen cook friendly" recipes as Clams and Mussels with a Swirl; Crispy Salmon Salad; Turkey Soup with Toasted Almonds; Barley Risotto; and Key Lime Pie.

I have tried many recipies and they are all great. I especially recommend the artichoke dip and corn chowder. Her second book on Tuscan cooking is also great!

Easy Italian with Charm,

I'm pretty fortunate that when my parents eat somewhere they love on vacation they bring me back a cookbook! They fell in love with Cristina and her restaurant in Sun Valley, and I have fallen in love with her cookbook at home. From simple salads to Italian treats, the recipes are understandable yet interesting. Heck, I even threw together some scones one day, completely undaunted!
While certain recipes I have flagged to try when I have more time, others have become staples that I can make easily any evening and eat throughout the week or freeze, like the meatloaf (also delicious with dark meat turkey). Tonight I made the Pomarola and it is just like the tomato sauce I love so much in Italy yet is for some reason so hard to find here. I hope to someday make it to her restaurant, but in the meantime I am enjoying every minute of her cookbook!

If you have never had the opportunity to dine with Cristina at her fabulous little restuarant, or had the chance to taste her tempting take out foods then this is the cook book for you. And if you are a regular, like myself, you know how lucky you are to have these recipes now in your repetoire. From its beautiful plated food shots to its easy to follow recipes this book will make everyone a gourmand. Bon Appetit.
