I've been in EMS for over 20 years and when I took the CCEMT-P class I bought this book to read "ahead" before the class. The book read like any Paramedic textbook and did VERY little to prepare me for the UMBC CCEMT course, it had little to no correlation to the material taught in the course (the book is not recommended by UMBC nor does the book claim to be a part of that course, but the name indicated to me that it would be relevant). It doesn't go into enough detail of the "advanced" parts of the CC scope and spends a lot of time reviewing things that if you haven't already mastered you probably shouldn't be preparing for certification at this level.

This is a good book to peek into the world of critical care. It's also a good book to give you insight into your patient conditions based on medications etc. Not worth mucj for reviewing for FP-C or CCEMT-P.

Great book, just doesn't successfully meet its intentions.,

This book was recently used as the primary text for my CCEMT-P course. While I believe this is a well written book, I feel it should be more appropriately used as a pre-course introduction to critical care in the pre-hospital and out-of-hospital setting, or as a tool to put nursing critical care textbooks into the EMS perspective. I feel this is a great book for any EMS provider to own and will gladly add it to my library instead of reselling it, I just feel that it poorly meets its intended purpose as a primary text for pre-hospital providers attending a critical care course.

Was the best, last year.,

The Brady Critical Care text was the only prehospital critical care text until Jones&Bartlett released one this year; I believe Elsevier will be releasing one soon. Bledsoe's approach to this book is typical of his writings. It is clear and easy to read, but not overly informative. It is useful but really lacks the depth of information that I wanted to see given the complexities of the Critical Care field.
I do resent the demeaning comments that Bryan Bledsoe made about Critical Care classes and CCEMTPs after he published this book. He published an article in JEMS where he said that critical care classes dilute the EMS profession. I find that more than a little hypocritical, coming from a person who made a good bit of money from the sale of this text. While that doesn't devalue the text directly, I think it does call into question Dr. Bledsoe's priorities in writing this text. If you read this text, you will be a better practitioner when you are done, but I think your time would be used more wisely reading the J&B text; it has more information, with a better presentation.

only one out there for now and required, but it leaves a lot of gaps, especially in a&p. overall good text, but will not be sufficient by itself if you truly want to understand.

Great reference. Helps with the transition from street to critical care paramedic. The chapter on airway management was excellent diving into the difficult airway and how to best approach it. Very in depth chapter on pharmacology and references in the system chapters adout the drugs used for each problem. Each chapter has review questions, they really help the information to stick. Overall a great buy, should have purchaced it sooner.

A Fantastic Text,

I have to say Brady Publishing and Dr. Bledsoe has done it again. An excellent textbook covering the topic of Critical Care Paramedicine. My favorite chapter is Altitude Physiology authored by prehospital critical care pioneers Larry Johnson and Bryan Bledsoe. After reading many textbooks on this subject (which pales in comparison) I have found that this particular chapter very complete and comprehensive. I highly recommend this text for any individual who is interested in pursuing a career in prehospital critical care.

Good book! Replaced what I ended up losing. Came with a small chip in the cover, but that's a hazard of shipping...Overall, definitely worth getting if you want to advance yourself as a Medic.

Way cheaper than in a college bookstore, or any bookstore for that matter. My husband was apprehensive about buying a book this way, but he was very pleased.
