I have to say that this novella was a blast to read. Blackford's got some serious chops. There are many great lines, to be sure, but Critical Incident's true value lies in the series of nightmarish situations he puts his characters in. I'm pretty sure I developed a handful of new phobias while reading this.

My only criticism is that I was left wanting more. Don't get me wrong, you get plenty here for your money, but I'm hoping Blackford develops some of these characters in a sequel. He definitely has enough to work with, and the skill to pull it off.

Buy this if you haven't already.

This was a solid novella worth the couple of hours you'll put into it. It could easily be lengthened into a full length novel and it shows hints that there could be more in store from this author.

This book was recommended to me on good authority and I am very grateful!
Critical Incident was intriguing and interesting from the beginning posing questions that made you beg for answers.
The homeless are leaving strange marks all over the city; but why? What are they for? WHO are they for? Are you sure you want to know??
Troy Blackford leads you on the quest for the answers that you would never expect!
I must admit that the above reviewer said everything I wanted to say! Well put, Sir!

This was an exciting, fast read. It is an imaginative and bleak tale until the end. One begins to wonder if anyone in the city is a good guy, at all. I take a mild view to the glaring editing errors, such as Guinea not Guiana, or a superfluous, fragment sentence now and then. I would also like to see the paragraph breaks swallowed up to be more traditional in a physical book like this. These are minor in comparison to the talent this youngun is displaying in all his stories.

This is an action-packed thrill ride, with very little time provided between the rapid-fire plot points for readers to catch their breath. The storytelling focuses almost exclusively on the ever rising stakes faced by the main characters, and although there is very little character development provided, Troy non-the-less brings his readers to the edges of their seats, rooting for their little-known heroes, and wondering until the very last page how on earth Troy will write them out of the insane circumstances into which he has thrown them! Overall, Critical Incident is a good lead-in to its awesome sequel, Emergent Pattern (Critical Incident).

The book began with an interesting plot. However, the author seemed to run out of ideas and the book ended rather quickly, apparently with the need to buy the next book by the author to find out what happened next. The book was short and this reader could certainly have handled a full length book to continue the plot and come to a conclusion.
