Adjunct text for CCRN review,
By
This review is from: Critical Care Nursing Secrets (Paperback)
In short order, this book captures the essentials of what you need to know in the ICU, and very frequently seen as subject matter on the CCRN exams. I found the memory-joggers (e.g. MR.PASS, MS.ARD) practical in both didactic and clinical practice, and often refer my orientees to this text.

Fantastic!,

This is an excellent CCRN review, AND a really great reference book. I carried mine to work every day for at least a couple of years, but am finally giving some other books a chance. Mine has been used a lot, and is full of margin notes, underlined phrases, stars, and exclamation marks! Buy it now, its great... :-)

I use this quick reference book with all my orientees. It is my 'Nurses Merck Manual'. The question and answer format prevents TMI for the new ICU nurse.

Best critical care book out there,
This review is from: Critical Care Nursing Secrets, 2e (Paperback)
As an experienced critical care RN, I have owned and read many cc books. This is by far the most practical and useful book out there. It is written in a question/answer format that makes it easy to read cover to cover as well as easy to refer to for quick reference. It gives excellent concise yet detailed rationale. It uses language and terms that are used at the bedside. All answers are written for practical bedside use rather than vague theoretical answers. K. Puntillo is one of the leading cc nurses in her field. She, as well as most of the contributors, are nursing faculty, researchers, and clinical nurses at UCSF, the #1 nursing school and nursing research facility in the US.

was abit scared to buy the kindle edition of this book as ive heard alot of textbook type publications dont translate well to kindle edition, but this will not disappoint! Its very easy to read, very easy to navigate & find information when in a hurry. Depending on whether or not your workplace allows the use of kindles by the bedside, its a great reference to keep handy. Highly recommend the kindle edition. As for the book itself, awesome reference guide! Ive been an RN for 5 years and 3 years of those in ICU and ive learnt alot! Easy to read graphs & tables, good explanation of concepts and is essential for beginner or advanced ICU nurses.

Not too hard...not too easy,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Critical Care Nursing Secrets, 2e (Paperback)
For this graduating BSN nurse precepting in the ICU, this is a nice one for the collection. Maybe an experienced nurse would find it too easy...but I like it. It goes into depth, but the entire thing is written in a FAQ format...and broken down by section. I like it. Its not so much "secrets" but explains lots of things that one would do/see in critical care nursing units.

Great book!,

This review is from: Critical Care Nursing Secrets, 2e (Paperback)
I love this book. I have almost 2 years RN experience, and am transitioning from telemetry to ICU. The Q & A format makes it less boring than some other books to read; and they are questions you have probably wondered about before. When I was fresh out of school, this book was almost a little too much for me; but it's great now that I have a little more experience. Like it so much that I'm probably about to buy the "cardiovascular nursing secrets" book.

This manual is a must for both the novice and expert ICU nurse. It is easy to find the answers to your question and detailed enough to expain complicated concepts.

Great resources for new nurses,

This was an excellent resource for me as a student precepting in ICU during the end of nursing school. I really like the question and answer format. It gave concise information that helped me to understand without having to use a 500+ page text book as a reference.

Very good reference resource for novice and experienced nurses. It offers detailed, current, and most importantly, concise information I and several co-workers have used during the fast pace of the ICU setting.
