About the ManhattanGMAT Strategy Guides

The ManhattanGMAT Strategy Guides offer students a unique balance between two competing emphases: test-taking strategies and in-depth content understanding. Most prep courses focus on the strategic portion of the GMAT - timing, shortcuts, etc. However, we believe that unless a student has a solid understanding of the content, the tricks won't be of any use. Therefore, we include practice problem sets that build specific foundational skills in each topic as well as advanced content that many other prep books ignore.

I loved this book. I actually used the RC, SC and CR of Manhattan and improved my verbal scores by a huge margin.

This is a really good resource for Critical Reasoning. The best part is that you get access to the Manhattan Online problem sets. Some of these questions are more difficult than the real test, but I guess that's to be expected from all the Manhattan series.

If you are preparing for the GMAT, this book is a great introduction to the critical reasoning in the verbal section of the exam. Good explanation and technique for someone who has difficulty in battling critical reasoning.

Provides so many good techniques and explains them clearly. You'll find the wrap up at the end of each chapter that will help you to organize what you just read up in your mind.

The Critical Reasoning section of GMAT has become more difficult over the years. The Official Guides are no longer reflective of the more difficult questions the real GMAT will give you.

This book does a credible job of covering all the CR question types. In my opinion, the GMAT CR is more difficult than LSAT CR (yes I have studied LSAT as well). In tougher GMAT CR problems, there is only 2 obvious wrong answers. The rest of the 3 answers are at least partially correct. It takes high level analysis and fine tuning of the passages to find the right answer.

The book provides a fine guideline on how to determine the right answers to all CR problems. I do not like nor recommend, however, this book's advocacy on writing out the logic of the passages on paper. You will be too pressed for time if you do so.

Overall, this is a worthy purchase and worthy of your precious GMAT study time.

I think this book explains how to analyze the Critical Reasoning part of the GMAT in a very well structured way. I have the Verbal workout from the Princeton Review and it doesn't even cover this topic. The official guide is too general and doesn't explain all the different types of questions that the GMAT asks in the Critical Reasoning part. The Manhattan GMAT preparation guide explains the 6 different types of questions, gives you examples and identifies the types of questions given by the Official guide so you can practice by recognizing the differences. Comparing to other books (Kaplan and Princeton Review) I liked the S-W-Slash chart.

Cons: I bought mistakenly this book I thought I was buying one book from the Manhattan Review, but the purchase was worth every dollar.
