A High Standard for Bibliographic Scholarship,

This review is from: Critical Reputation of Robinson Jeffers: A Bibliographic Study (Hardcover)
I have frequent recourse to this bibliography, and value its succinct, astringent, and judicious annotations. But it is in its thoroughness that the book's true glory lies. I often come across a reference to a contemporary review, or an out-of-the-way article or chapter on Jeffers that I've never heard of, and think to myself, "This is such a recondite reference, surely Vardamis missed it . . . " But almost without exception I find the reference in this excellent work. This has happened twice in recent months, and many other times over the years. And whenever it happens, I am struck anew by the very high standard the author has set for works of this kind.
