5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and entertaining textbook
We are using this textbook for my critical thinking course. It does an excellent job of making informal logic interesting. She is very helpful but the textbook is not as described. I am a very disappointed customer because the textbook is not in good condition. I didn't expect the textbook to look old with dirty adhensive markings. I feel very dishearten.

We are using this textbook for my critical thinking course. It does an excellent job of making informal logic interesting. Even when you are reading about things you already know, Moore and Parker make it a fun read by adding in plenty of real-life examples. The exercises for each chapter are tedious but straightforward and effective -- they require a lot of time to complete but I always have a better understanding of the material after completing them. I would recommend this book for any informal logic course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Introductory Text for Critical Thinking/English, June 9, 2009

This was one of the books that I used for my Introduction to Logic class when I was in high school. Not only are the concepts explained clearly but they are layed out in a way that does not talk down to you. Its fun to read yet very practical in the sense that there are places where the author(s) correlate informal/formal logic concepts with the real world. One example shows how certain rules in Truth-Functional Logic relate to electrical circuits. In particular for AP English Students, this book can be a great complement to your other required texts. I recommend this to high school/college students, professionals, or enthusiasts who are seeking to better understand and improve their critical thinking skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent text, May 25, 2011

Moore and Parker's book is the best text I've used for Logic and Critical Thinking. In fact, I've used it for all ten editions. I would not have stuck with a book that long if I didn't think it was the best. It's always current, the exercises are good and helpful, much of the book is amusing while still imparting critical information. I would recommend this for anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook!, January 31, 2011

This is a very well written textbook, entertaining to read. The authors make this such an easy book to read with clever wit and relevant easy to relate examples. Each chapter contains a great deal of exercises at the end to have plenty of practice with, so you can ensure you'll understand what was covered. The critical thinking techniques in this text are not the easiest things to absorb but with their writing you'll soon master these topics before you even realize it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Critically Thinking, November 4, 2011

I enjoyed this book, it gave me insite on new terminology on how an argument can be evaluated. I found out that news media use a lot of the fallacies described in the text. Also, many of the fallacies mentioned are used everyday through normal conversations between people. I recommmend this book for reading so that a person would understand how our language has other definitions.

5.0 out of 5 stars made it in time for school, September 11, 2011

even with the questions at the back, i still needed a teacher to hold my hand. some of the questions will be simple enough to fool you and then slap you on the face.
it's the first time when no one in my class is understanding the material without breaking down every argument concept down to their fundamental thoughts. "the world is flat" "i believe the world is flat" "the world should be flat" "the world is better flat"

still a good book and an interesting class.
i recommend this book for anyone going into social science / law / english fields.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much extraneous info., May 24, 2010

This book is ok, but has too much extra long story telling, makes too many references to the likes of Britney and Paris, and some concepts were confusing except for chapters where we just concentrated on word definitions.
For instance, the logic charts can be confusing if your instructor doesn't break them down for you. It would have been more challenging had the authors given us more not so obvious errors in critical thinking instead of giving obvious examples one might notice in young Hollywood.
I took this online, and my instructors notes were more helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldnt find the book anywhere, February 15, 2011
This review is from: Critical Thinking (Paperback)
but thankfully i found it here and i only needed a used book just to get me by class. i love my class and i am happy i found the textbook. although used, its still very helpful. and buying used books saves us money, saves the trash/garbage flow around the world or maybe just in your own backyard, and saves trees.
