I am currently using this book as text in one of my undergraduate college courses (Literary Criticism).Excellent selected essays, with great abstracts/introductions at the beginning of each. They give historical background, both about the author and the school from which the author comes, often a introduction to the terminology used, and a concise summary of the author's argument.

I bought this book and used it as a textbook a few years ago for my Literary Criticism class in college. I have really enjoyed reading it. The book is well pieced together; the individual articles/essays are well written and concise, for the most part. Even if you are not planning on using it for school purposes it is a good book for those wishing to have a better understanding of literature. I have used it several times as a reference since graduation and occasional will read one of the essays just for fun. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there are a few articles that are not to my liking, a little too wordy with not much substance. However, that is not the norm for the book as a whole. Overall, if you need it for a class, or are a literature buff, it's a good buy.
