5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, Awesome, Fantanstic and As Good as It Gets, May 2, 2008
This review is from: Criticize the Truth (Audio CD)
The title of the review says it all. For my tastes, this is as good as it gets. I've literally destroyed my disk by playing it so much and had to get a replacement. These guys walk right down the border between hard rock and metal and, with feet on both sides, hit the target dead center. Its powerful, agressive and strong but also melodic and sweet. The guitars are simply beautiful as they overlay and compliment each other in an overwhelming wall of powerful sound. Obviously, these guys, like their fellow Germans who seem to populate the quality bands in this genre today, were influenced by 80's AOR and metal. But, and this is not an exaggeration in the case of this album, nothing done in the 80's reaches the quality evidenced here. If you've ever wondered how good melodic rock/metal could be if done exactly right all you have to do is listen to this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerhouse melodic hard rock, July 13, 2007
This review is from: Criticize the Truth (Audio CD)
Despite hailing from Germany, melodic hard rockers Evidence One have a sound that owes more to Pretty Maids and Pink Cream 69 than to countrymen Bonfire and Axxis. Evidence One's style is fast paced and heavy hitting, but at the same time is highly melodic. The band members have ties to Frontline and Shakra, so you can hear elements of those bands' styles in Evidence One's style. It's not quite metal, but it is definitely more focused in guitars than keyboards, and there are plenty of great "raise your fist and sing along" choruses here.

Evidence One's debut CD Criticize the Truth is a very strong album, especially considering it is the band's first release. The lyrics are a bit quirky, and you wonder if the band struggled a bit translating them to English, but it's a minor distraction to an otherwise very solid album.

Fans of any of the bands listed above, as well as bands like Last Tribe, Jorn, TNT, and Shy, will definitely want to check out Evidence One. They're another high quality melodic hard rock band that is worth watching in the future.

NOTE: The 2007 reissue of Criticize the Truth features a bonus track - a live version of the song Frozen in Time.
