This review is from: Critics on Trial: An Introduction to the Catholic Modernist Crisis (Paperback)
Critics on Trial covers a critical time in Roman Catholic theology. The changes wrought by Vatican I and the encyclicals that rose up to defend and extend them defined how theology is done today. In several cases these encyclicals were promulgated in direct contrast to the Modernist Crisis.
Critics on Trial is presented more in the style of a novel than that of a history book. Modernism is a tough knot to unravel, and by presenting the history through the inter-relationships of the participants we see much more than a mere historical work would provide.
