Finally!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Croatia: Myth and reality : the final chapter (CIS monographs) (Paperback)
History in general is often writen by those victorious in times of war. As a result, the communist government of Yugoslavia following the Second World War, dominated by Serbs, replaced the reality of the region's history with a campaign based almost entirely on myth. Finally, however, a competent and credible work has been published challenging the continued presence of Serbian propodanda and their mythical attachment to the past. I commend Mr. McAdams for job well done, as well as long overdue.

Historical Errors About Croatia Documented & Corrected,
By A Customer
This review is from: Croatia: Myth and reality : the final chapter (CIS monographs) (Paperback)
As an American interested in a balanced approach to history, I find McAdams book a well documented approach to presenting a truer picture of the Republic of Croatia. It is easy to see from the numerous examples of Serbian and Yugoslav propaganda, why a book like this would cause such a strong reaction by supporters of Milosevic, Belgrade, and the "myth of a Greater Serbia." Extremists who have tried to paint Croatia with a false brush using WWII examples to justify the death, destruction, and ethnic cleansing perpetrated on a FREE, DEMOCRATIC CROATIA, lose the propaganda justification for their illogical, illegal, and immoral war. U.S. State Department officials and everyone dealing with the former Yugoslavia should have this book as required reading.

Refreshing!,
This review is from: Croatia: Myth and reality : the final chapter (CIS monographs) (Paperback)
Take advantage of this read, because it is rare to find one on the topic of Croatian myths that is so thorough. This is mainly because the world has become so accustomed to previous views proliferated by Serbians. Those who accuse it of being propaganda are simply being defensive, because they cannot handle the truth being revealed. Understandable, because how would you feel if what you took as fact is suddenly not so? However, these people need to realize that, with the help of McAdam's piece, these myths are just not what really happened. It was initially propaganda that embedded lies about Croatia, so how is that a better reality than that presented by McAdams, which is far from being propaganda? I am in no way excusing Croatia from their faults, but as you will find out after reading Myth & Reality, their actions, role, and place in this world is far different that what the average American believes.

Serbian Propoganda exposed!!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Croatia: Myth and reality : the final chapter (CIS monographs) (Paperback)
Finally, a work to set the record straight about Croatia! The Serbian Propoganda machine has continued to destroy the image of Croatia over the past years, but now with their independance, Croatia can dispell the Myths. It will take years to have the truth come into view for the entire world to see, but this is a great first volley to shatter the iron wall of the Serbian revisionism and demonization of the Croats. Bravo! Five stars isn't enough for this book.

Easy Read That Sets the Record Straight About Croatia,
By A Customer
This review is from: Croatia: Myth and reality : the final chapter (CIS monographs) (Paperback)
Bravo! McAdams has written an eminently readable history of Croatia that the average American reader, accustomed to "quick reads and sound bites" will find interesting and informative. The American reader now has a book about Croatian history that has not emanated from the world indoctrination of Serb dominated post-World War I monarchist Yugoslavia nor post-World War II communist Yugoslavia, a period that solidified the Serbian disinformation, distortion, and respression of Croatia's history, culture and identity.Since 1918 (and before), the American public's educational knowledge of Croatia has been filtered through the prism of Serbian disinformation. It would be like only learning American history as issued by England. C. Michael McAdams has succeeded in drawing back the Serbian prevaricative veil and presenting the real facts. It's a must read that sets the record straight.

Croatian Holocaust Revisionism,
By Nick (nt@sentex.net) (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Croatia: Myth and reality : the final chapter (CIS monographs) (Paperback)
A shocking book based on little academic historical research, but rather manufactured revisionist history. Croatia, which was likely Hitler's greatest Nazi ally and conducted a brutal Holocaust against its Jewish and Serb minorities a mere fifty years ago, is according to McAdam one of the West's greatest allies and victims. McAdam's next "work" will likely be on how Nazi German death camps were actually work and rehabilitation centers for Jews! A shoddy work of little historical substance. A review of the Holocaust and Croatia's horrid role can be found in any library and will provide a reader with a very different perspective.

Not a credible book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Croatia: Myth and Reality (Paperback)
McAdams' book is NOT a serious academic work on Croatia or the conflict in the former Yugoslavia but a pure propaganda piece. At times it crosses the line of what should be allowed to be published when it reduces the Croatian state's genocide in WWII. The only reason why somebody might want to read this book is as an example of the propaganda and lies not to believe.
