This review is from: Croc 2 (Video Game)
Croc, the Crusading Crocodile, is back --- and he's off to find his long lost parents! "Croc" was my all time favorite video game, so I thought it would be really hard to match it --- but the great people at Argonaut have done a truly wonderful job and have actually improved upon this classic video game. Needless to say, Croc is the cutest video hero of all time (followed closely by Rayman), and it is this aspect of the game that makes it so charming --- you quickly get wrapped up in "really wanting" him to find his parents and defeat the Evil Baron Dante (who has been resurrected by his ever devoted Dantinis). You can't really say that about most video game "heros". The addition of four different central Gobbo village "hub levels" is also an improvement --- if you should get frustrated on any one level (e.g. "Roger Red Ant" had me really stopped for a couple of nights), you can go to another level and revisit the tougher level later (this significantly reduces the frustration level that was sometimes irritating in the original game). Also, they have reduced the number of seemingly impossible jumps significantly, and added other more fun elements in their place (e.g. hang gliding, roller coasting through mines, speed boat racing!). Yep, Croc is now quite a talented little guy compared to his early days on Gobbo Island!Another fun addition is the new character "Swap Meet Pete" --- Croc now actually has to buy materials from Pete to complete the various levels. This makes it more fun, since now you have to plan ahead of time to get through some levels. Finally, the bosses still have that great sense of goofy humor about them --- my personal favorite is Soveena the Squid! Kids'll love her! Overall, a truly great game with a genuinely lovable hero character and amusing adversaries. Minor quibbles: 1) While Croc does swim, he no longer swims underwater --- this was one of the most fun aspects of "Croc I". I hope you guys at Argonaut allow Croc to go back to 3-D swimming in "Croc III". II) Croc no longer can walk backwards nor does he have the cool 180 degree rapid turnaround move --- being an avid Crocophile, this took alot of getting used to. III) Beware: On the "Golden Gobbo" levels you only have ONE chance to get the statue --- goof up, and you have to work your way through the level all over again (I feel this was a mistake, and does take away from the fun factor --- you should be allowed to keep attempting this level as long as you have remaining lives). Nonetheless, despite these minor quibbles, a truly great game which I would recommend for anyone of any age! CAN'T WAIT FOR CROC III (listening, Argonaut! ). Keep up the good work! Long live Croc!

One of the best games,

I love this game! Croc 2 is about a crocidile who lost his parents a long time ago. His friends are fuzzy little guys named Gobbos. They speak a gibberish language. Croc travels all over the different worlds to find his parents. All i can say? Grapics are smooth and well done A lot of the people who wrote reviews hated it. They said it was too hard! Well, they must not be very good players, because there are harder games than Croc 2! You need patience, and skill. Well, i guess thats how the world works. I hope you enjoy this game as much as i do!

I love this game!! It's so much fun! I used to spend hours and hours playing it until *sniff* the Croc 2 disc broke. I love it so much that I'm willing to spend 10 dollars just to buy a new disc. This is a great game to buy!

Croc 2, the story of a nice and powerful crocodile, is a superb gaming experience for all ages. Its detailed setting, superior graphics, and grabbing storyline increases the gamer's enjoyment. Croc 1 enthusiasts are sure to be pleased with the newest installment. As for newcomers to Croc's world, Croc 2 is sure to enchant them forever.

Croc's Revenge,

You might be wondering why I have entitled my review Croc's Revenge. The answer is simple...in this sequel to the original, Croc is back and ready to take on much more interesting, innocent but imaginative tasks. The original Croc was praised because of it's 3D animation and colorful characters but critisized for one thing; control. In Croc 2 the basics are the same but it highly exceeds the original. Players are faced with different worlds where they come in contact with different tribes of Gobbos. Each Gobbo in a tribe "has a favor to ask" but don't be fooled, the game is not repetative. Each task is something completely different (catch the theif, unlock the trapped Gobbos, save the Gobbos from a mechanical dinosaur). The best, and most comforting thing, (for parents) is the lack of violence. There is no blood or gore whatsoever. Most of the danger is from the times when Croc falls into lava, but he doesn't burn, he just leaps off of the pool of lava and says ouch. I would highly recommend this game. I am addicted to it and have nearly completed it. It is simple ideas mixed with sometimes difficult tasks, but beatable none the less. I give it 5 stars.

Croc is a nice guy, and so are the Gobbo's. The characters are really cute. Okay, on with the gameplay. In this game, there are a couple of islands, and on these islands, there are a couple of Gobbos that need your help. Some of the missions are jungles, caves, races. Like said in other reviews, the camera angle is annoying, and you learn by dying, a lot. Doing these levels again and again gets very old. Despite all this, the game is still fun. Rent it first. If you are gifted with enough patience, this game will be fun. If not though, don't buy, you'll end up hitting your head against the wall while sleep walking, and throwing your PSX out your window, laughing a the broken pieces. You'll turn from a regular guy or gal to a psycho.

This game is nice I like it and have fun playing it but its just lacking somthing from the first game not to say that its great and all but theres somthing missing i dont quite have it but it could be any of these
the enemies and bosses are more silly like and not cute like even the little dantais have changed they used to be a bit smaller then crocs size and they had a strange laugh that went with their devious look but with croc 2 they look like fat cows with pitch forks and bosses such as a big ice snowball each time you deafeat it it splits into more! Maybe its the gobbos they used to be these cute little round shaped cretures now their kinda spikey and also bigger It might be that there arent literal levels anymore its just areas It Could be that the levels arent as well done or nice as before I used to love the levels that show the sky as a sort of mystical place with planets and a bright big star with small stars everywhere in a majestic dark blue sky Maybe the music its just not as calming or fitting with the levels anymore Theres not really any challange at the end of the level its now passing through a small area of the level getting through traps and such and not falling instead of a nice little challange such as Escaping a ghost before it takes the rewarded gobbo away or finding keys and such no more secret little areas with bonuses But with all these flaws come a few upsides new abilities such as flip hop triple jump he can even pick up and throw bombs all new inventory system and items to use for your missions such as gummie savers three variations binoculars clockwork gobbos new power system instead of using the crystals to use as power collect 100 in a level and you regain all of your power use of boats go carts and more! Overall this game is nice its pros dont make up for its cons but its not bad i do reccommend this game

Well, it's got all the flaws the other reviewers mention.
BUT, it's been very fun for my 5 year old and I to play...it's really nonviolent, as when Croc stomps the Dantinis their eyes still blink like they don't understand what happened. It's also got a lot of little puzzles, so it's not this frenetic crazy action game. And the music is nice too. So despite all the flaws, we really like this game a lot and have looked for a Croc 3 to show up. It's cute and charming and that's what I want with a small child.

Don't buy this for very young ones because it will be too hard for them. When Croc runs it's very sencitive so when you tap left Croc will do a full turn. You will die because health is limited but you will get used to this if you're truely talented at games. My first game was Crash Bandicoot 1(back in 97/98)and on my first go I could control the character with ease and I beat my friends at games when they had a Playstation for 2 years. My point is if you've a son/daughter and they've got a simular story and they're talented at games then get this after Croc 1 and I know adults will enjoy this as well. I don't think Croc 3 wasn't released because Croc 2 was rubbish. If you like this checkout Crash Bandicoot 1/2/3. |
