you are a beginner and want to do crochet?
buy this book.
before buying it I was hesitating between this one and " crochet A to Z" and I chose this one, and I did great>
I am a beginner in crochet and french, the language is twice difficult for me, but this book IS THE answer!
you have different ways to explain the stitches, which help when the 1st one one was not understood...
plus you have pictures of what you are supposed to expect .
but the more important in crochet is how you are supposed to tight your wool on the crochet and this book explains little details like that very easily!!!
(I tried other books... I prefer not living any feed back...)
BUY IT, because you have the basics, plus the way to use them together...
a hard cover protects the spiraled pages , which keep it flat and stable when you try to begin some stitches.... but I am sure professional of crochet will find a great condensate of a good reminder!

At first I liked this book with the beautiful photos and clear diagrams. Also, it does explain about crocheting edges in two different ways, one of which makes the edges much straighter. However, in ALL the diagrams and patterns, the author has chosen to use patterns that do NOT use the edge technique which creates straighter edges. In other words, the author does NOT count the turning chain as a stitch in any patterns. It is very difficult for a reader to adapt these patterns to the other technique, so I decided to return the book.

This is a crochet reference guide including over 150 stitch patterns. My review focuses on its utility as a stitch guide.

What I like:
The stitches are organized into 19 sections (Basic Stitches & Stitch Combinations; Shell Stitches & Shell Stitch Combinations; Chevrons, Ripples, & Waves; Stretched Stitches; Post Stitches; Clusters, Bobbles, & Popcorns; Ruffles & Cords; Leaves & Flowers; Blocks; Color Changing Rows; Colorwork; Bead Crochet; Edgings and Insertions; Lace Backgrounds; Filet; Irish Crochet; Snowflakes; Tunisian Crochet; CroKnit), making it easier to find stitches.

Stitch multiples are included so that you can easily adapt the stitches for a project of a different width.

This guide includes many types of crochet not generally included in English language stitch guides (e.g., Tunisian crochet, double-ended crochet or CroKnit, bead crochet).

There is a photograph of each stitch on the same page as the pattern.

Each stitch includes both pattern abbreviations and stitch symbols.

The book has a spiral binding, allowing it to lay flat so you can read and crochet at the same time.

The book also includes other reference information and patterns.

What I don't like (or what's missing):
Some of the stitches are made in an off white color, so it is hard to see stitch detail in the photographs.

Many of the stitches are pretty standard, so if you have any other stitch guides, there is likely to be a lot of overlap.

There is no pattern difficulty rating listed.

I give this book 4 stars as an overall crochet reference guide, but only 3 stars a stitch guide, since if you are a "stitch guide junkie" like me there will be a lot of overlap with your other stitch guides.

Designed for beginners, this book introduces the art of crotchet. Through three colorful chapters of easy to read text and numerous pictures, the book takes one through the various crotchet terms, techniques and tools, basic stitches and a few simple basic patterns. Including a glossary, list of resources, and index, this 254 page spiral book encased in a hardback cover is an excellent introduction to the popular craft.

I would like to start by saying that I already knew how to crochet (minimally) before buying this book. I bought this book from Amazon after seeing it at Hobby Lobby. I love the pictures and illustrations! It is very easy to read and teaches how to read text and graphic patterns. It includes a variety of techniques and is simple enough for beginners. In addition, it has a few projects to try. I use it frequently as a reference for stitches and techniques. Great value!

I am so glad I bought this book. Other than a few stitch explanations I am missing (I am a beginner) for post stitiches... this book has helped me become a crocheter :) I could not crochet at all and this book helped me in many ways to get started and to understand some of the possibilities.

Well organized. Nice format. Good explanations and I love the stitich pattern diagrams.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who either does or wants to crochet

This is a beautifully illustrated pattern book, but don't throw away any other you might already have, as undoubtedly you'll find patterns in other books you won't find in this "complete" guide. I bought this book intending to use one of the patterns for my current project. I ended up using a pattern from a small, black-and-white 30-year-old pattern book. This is a good pattern book for the beginner or an intermediate-level user. If you have advance skills, buy more specialized pattern books.
