Fantastic, the projects are a delight!,
By
This review is from: Crochet from the Heart "Print on Demand Edition" (Paperback)
Although I have many crochet books, this one stands out as being one of my favorites. The projects are adorable, and as the cover says, are quick and easy to make. I made the ruffle edged hat in one evening! I also like that this book shows you some basic things that can translate on to different projects. For example, there is a section on how to make different types of flowers. I've been sticking them on everything I make just to give it that extra pizzazz. (I'm at that dangerous state where I am bordering on gaudy with these things.)
The book also includes a handy chart on head circumference to hat diameter to help you make the proper fit for preemie baby heads. The author also includes directions on how to make "a simple start." This is an alternative to the slip knot, which I have never seen before. It allows you to begin your work without the tell-tale knot and is used in hats and such. It looks a little dangerous to me. I feel like the traditional knot holds my work in place, but I have not tried it yet so maybe it is more secure than it looks. Since the book's theme is "from the heart," it reminds the reader that there are many charities that would love to recieve the projects featured. In the back, the author provides a list with contact information for these charities. One note of caution: there are a dissproportionate number of hat patterns in this book. Out of 18 projects, nearly one third are hats! But I LOVE making hats so this was a plus for me.

Solid start in crochet, wholesome message,

This book contains excellent basic crochet instructions with big easy-to-use diagrams. I have used this book to learn to crochet for the first time and the instructions are really very clear. I do wish it had instructions for some more interesting stitches beyond the basics. The projects are easy and cute, not really my personal style, but they're good for practice and of course, as the author suggests, giving to charity organizations.

Love this book,
This review is from: Crochet from the Heart "Print on Demand Edition" (Paperback)
I just received this today, and all the projects look great. There are only 2 or 3 that I wouldn't make--finger puppets, a wrist band, a choker--but the rest are adorable. I'm thinking of making the baby hat and booties for a soon-to-arrive baby, and the blankets are cute too. I love the footie pattern, and I can see that it would be fun to embellish projects with the flowers.
The projects are definitely easy enough for beginners--I'm one. She has a nice instuctional section. I probably won't use the yarns she used as they are a bit pricey, but she gives you the weight of the yarn, and the gauge, so you could easily substitute. So far, this is the best pattern book that I've gotten.

Great Gift Ideas!,

This review is from: Crochet from the Heart "Print on Demand Edition" (Paperback)
I loved the book, both the great colorful photos, and the diversity of the projects, but also the idea that the projects are good for giving - both to family and friends, but also to charity organizations. The fact that there is a list of places in the back of the book to donate finished projets to, makes it really easy to have fun making things, and feel good about donating them.
I also love the fact that the book is clearly geared toward novice crocheters, which I definitely am! So many of the books I've looked at have deceptively easy looking patterns, until it comes time for me to execute them! In Kristins book I can follow her directions, and come out with great looking things! It's also nice to be able to make something that looks good, but doesn't take months to make!

I can't wait to get time to start some of these projects. She shows them done in such vibrant colors, with easy instructions. She also makes suggestions within the text of the individual project, as well as a listing in the back, of ideas and places to donate your completed projects to. I would definitely reccomend this book to anyone.

I want to make almost everything in this book. I did not know a hat could be made so simply. I love the idea of giving to people outside of my immediate circle of friends and family. This book has inspired me to make things for people I do not know.

I like this book a lot. Very simple. Nothing fancy. If you wanna learn how to make some basics, this is for you. I myself finally learned how to make a decent pair of socks from this book.
