This video is above five stars! Mrs. Dillon is almost like having your grandmother teach you.How they film it is of great help because it is as if you are looking down at your own hands.I never thought that I could do this and with in the first minutes of the video I was CROCHETING ! 3.0 out of 5 stars Learning to Crochet
I learned something from this DVD but I sort of regret getting it. You can barely see the picture. Its not very clear to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tutorial!, February 20, 2000

This video was excellent! Finally, a chance to actually see how the stitches are made properly. I was particularly impressed with the section on granny squares, changing yarn colors, and the different edgings to enhance all crocheted items. This is a must for beginners to advanced if crocheting is your passion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Demonstration is the best teacher, December 23, 2002

I tried to teach myself crochet from the books I found in crafts stores, but sooner or later someone has to show you how to turn corners, weave in ends, and read patterns. If you don't have access to someone who is knowledgable and very experienced in crochet, I whole-heartedly recommend this video. You can see close-ups of the stitches and Bev Dillon's hands as if you're looking down at your own hands. Another plus for beginners...as she demonstrates the stitches, she shows you slowly and talks you through it, and during some segments of the video, you can watch her crochet at full-speed and see how she develops rhythm. This is definitely lacking in the how-to books.

This video includes projects and a booklet that contains all the items she crochets in the video, including a granny square which I find challenging as a beginner. Since I purchased this video, I took a crochet class, but I find myself going back and watching the video often for a refresher of particular stitches and techniques. If you're motivated to learn crochet, there's no better investment. The skill stays with you for a lifetime! (and the marvel you get from non-crocheters will definitely boost your confidence and keep you moving on to more complicated projects)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best and Fastest Way to Learn Crochet, March 30, 2007

This review is from: Crochet From Start to Finishing: Everything You Need For Learning and Improving Your Skills (DVD)
If you want to learn to crochet, then this DVD will do the trick. I started watching, and in one or two lessons I was on my way. The instructions are ultra-clear and easy to follow. Step by step lessons along with excellent up-close camera work allows you to see how stitches are made from your point of view. It's like watching your own hands as you crochet. You can't get any better than this. No book or drawing can even come close. If you are serious about crochet, then this is one serious purchase you should make. Bev Dillon is an excellent teacher, too. You will learn all the basics here, and even some additional techniques like afghan stitch and brookstick lace. There's more than enough to keep you stitching for a long time. I've recommended this DVD to so many people over the years.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Way!, April 14, 2004
Okay so Bev Dillon is a little too sweet and boring, but who cares! Yikes, I am a self taught crocheter, or at least I thought I was till I saw this. I was doing double crochet wrong at the end of rows! I learned how to make granny squares finally, and do ripple stitch, and work in the round, and other tips and hints that make working with yarn easier. She begins with how to make a knot and goes slowly from there to things I never knew existed! This is truly the best way to learn, it's all here, pausable, rewindable, and available at my library whenever the need arises! I do however agree that these tapes should be made into DVDs soon. Also check out Knitting from Start to Finishing. Check your library before you spend the money, you'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilled with this Video!, March 23, 2004

I wanted so desperately to learn crochet, but could find no teachers or classes in my area. Craft books with pictures just don't cut it, and I needed someone to "show" me. This video lived up to my expectations and more. Bev Dillon slowly and patiently shows you all the basic stitches and goes way beyond the basics with little tips and tricks, then on to more complex and advanced techniques. The camera angles show you her hands as she works, and it helps so much because you can easily follow along as though you were looking over her shoulder as she crochets! A little pattern booklet accompanies the video (inside the video jacket - on the outside of the box. It's there, sort of hidden). This video is the next best thing to having a personal teacher. I only wish it were on DVD; would make it much easier to locate the chapters! Buy this if you want to learn how to crochet on your own. You'll be on your way in no time!

A followup comment: This is finally available on DVD! I bought one, and it's a lot easier to go from chapter to chapter now. I've made so many crocheted items that I have had to give away bags to stuff to charities just the clear out some space in my house! Once again, let me emphasize that this is a very small investment for such rich dividends. Superb.

If books are not enough for you then buy this DVD. I bought books in the past and usually got stuck. After watching her do the granny square, the instructions I read in the book make sense. The best part is that you can replay as often as you need until you get it.

I have owned this on video for years. I have not found a better instruction DVD on crocheting . The DVD format makes it easier to review the area of interest. I consider this to be a Must Have DVD for crocheters of any level. If you can only own one DVD this is the One. The project book helps you to develop skills as you crochet along with the DVD or learn new techniques like the Lovers Knot stitch. Her demonstration makes it a snap to learn, and then her shawl gives you ideas of how to apply this stitch to different projects.

I love this dvd! Ms. Dillon teaches in a calming voice, and explains everything. She taught me how to read patterns and increase and decrease rows! Now my crochet projects look so professional and I get compliments, everyday! My daughter is now crocheting, and others have asked me to teach them! This step by step program will help you, too. Get a learn-how-to-crochet tool kit, watch a chapter completely, then restart and stop it as needed while practicing each concept. It works! I am proud to make and give away perfectly square blankets. I am also making other things, like booties and headset covers....and fancy baby blankets. If you practice these concepts, this dvd is well worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars All You Will Ever Need. Thank you, Bev., February 12, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I couldn't learn crochet from books. God knows I tried. I enjoy being with other women in classes, but they take place after work and keeping up when you're tired adds pressure, and when the class is large I feel guilty taking too much of the teacher's time if I just don't get something. I thought Bev's video was pricey, but I considered classes are $25 a pop and at 2-1/2 hrs. this is more like two videos in one. I swear this is all anyone will ever need to learn to crochet. The video is comprehensive, from absolute beginner to more advanced crochet, and Bev is calm and clear. Being able to watch the stitches being made, as often as you need, is far superior to trying to read a diagram or keep up in class. No pressure. I've since ordered Bev's knitting video. I CAN'T BELIEVE I'm really crocheting and LOVING it! For the first time, I can say "I really CAN do that!" Thank you, Bev.
