There are 200 crochet stitches in this spiral bound book which makes it easy to use while crocheting. Useful index with all the stitches by name. Each stitch has illustration, instructions and chart with international symbols. Also a stitch key on right side of every odd numbered page which means you can read the charts as the symbols are right there. Stitches are grouped into broad categories such as mesh and filet. Also more details in back about the symbols and abbreviations. The terms are American with a comparison to the English in the back. My one criticism is that the actual pictures of the stitches are very dull and small when more colors would certainly have brightened up the book. Hopefully Barnden will be persuaded to bring out a second volume with more stitches. Very useful important addition to the growing crochet stitch collection.

This crochet book is the perfect reference for those who like to make up there own projects. She gives you step by step instructions and easy to read diagrams for each stitch. From there, it's easy to imagine and create your own designs! Personally, I don't like to be confined by a particular pattern, but I love learning all the different stitches explained in this book.

Great reference book,

I'm a fairly new crocheter and this is the best book I've found. It gives clear directions--both written and diagrams. The diagrams make more sense to me than the written instructions, so I've used more than 20 of these stitches already. It's a great guide to help you design your own patterns. I've made several baby blankets using stitches I've found in this book.

Best I've Seen,
By Ruby Hayes (Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Crochet Stitch Bible (Spiral-bound)
This book is not just fantastic for the stitch patterns included (over 200) - but for the additional info! I have been crocheting blankets and afghans for over 10 years and am ready to start branching out - I have always been unclear on how to join pieces for clothing and this book gives you ALL the options with clear, detailed instructions.
There is a pattern index - WITH PICTURES! - and beautiful ones at that! A must have for anyone ready to move on from the ordinary double crochet stitch!

The BEST crochet book ever.,

This review is from: The Crochet Stitch Bible (Spiral-bound)
This is the best book for crochet enthusiasts ever. Even though it doesn't have patterns, it has stitches I've never seen before and great details to learn them. You can go the extra mile and create your own patterns using these stitches. I bought one for a gal pal for her birthday and she hasn't stopped talking about it. I am going to get a lot of use from this book. I would recommend it to anyone who loves to crochet.

The color photographs are not defined,

It's a nice spiral-bound book with lots of stitches. However, I had a hard time seeing the pictures clearly. I wish the yarn was darker in many of the photographs. Also, the charts they show are barely readable because they're printed so light.

A Great Little Book,
By Rosa "Rosa" (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Crochet Stitch Bible (Spiral-bound)
This is a book which lives up to all the reviews I've read about it. It is well organized, covers a broad range of topics and is compact enough to find a space in your tote bag. I like the Stitch Selector feature which shows small colored swatches of the stitch patterns covered in the book with the pages number, where a larger picture of the swatch and instructions for completing it can be found. You only have look through to eight pages to locate the pattern of your choice.
Pattern directions are given using both symbols and written out row by row. Finishing techniques are also covered. The stitch techniques diagrams are very clear. It covers international crochet hook sizes and even has a small glossary. This is a book I will use often.

easy to follow , complete with diagrams and photographs,
By Belinda Hughes (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Crochet Stitch Bible (Spiral-bound)
As a person just learning to crochet, i found the detailed explanations with clear diagrams great to follow. later, when I was learning the more complex patterns, the combination of diagrams, symbols and crochet jargon, were well designed. it was satisfying to see my own results look very similar to the photographs. my minor criticism would be that there is no example articles to make using these new patterns, or little reference to how the patterns may be used for a potential wrap or hat etc.

I bought this in a craft store today because I didn't want to wait for shipping. I've looked through it, and I love it already! The pictures are fantastic, the stitch explanations are clear and easy to follow, and I love the translations to international crochet symbols. I'm really looking forward to using this book as a reference tool for designing my own crochet items. Don't buy it if you're looking for patterns. This is strictly a guide to the many useful stitches that are used in crochet. Enjoy!
