"This book by retail manager Brant and crochet workshop organizer Seddon is so straightforward. The projects are basic, and all the techniques are described clearly. The next best thing to an in-person crochet class."  —Library Journal

"Easy-to-decipher color pictures join written instructions and drawn diagrams, so there's no excuse for not following along and learning the stitches and techniques as they're shown and described.knitsimple."  —knitsimple

"With its graduated learning style, this is an excellent book for anyone from the first-timer to the more experienced crocheter. Beginning with learning proper ways to hold the hook, Seddon and Brant guide you through basic crochet stitches, from making an adjustable loop to fastening off and fiber choices."  —Interweave Crochet

I taught myself to knit from a book and figured that crochet would be a piece of cake. The first book I ever bought on crochet said, "everyone does it differently" and I thought, uh oh. I have been attempting crochet for over 3 years now and have probably purchased over 10 books on the subject from these "everybodies". I spent many hours toiling over a single crochet swatch that never seemed to stay as long or as short as the pattern said. It was impossible for me to count the chains after I crocheted into it too. So needless to say, I did not get very far in 3 years.

CROCHET WORKSHOP is the only book that CLEARLY explains how to crochet into the chain. Because crocheting into the chain regardless of the stitch you are doing, is done differently than the next row crocheted. The visuals are superb. The written descriptions of the visuals are even better. I can't believe I went through so many books before finding this gem.

This book also clearly explains how to count your turning chains and how to keep your turning chains consistent in each work you create. In one day I learned how to do single, half double, double, and triple crochet and it stayed even. And I was able to count my chains within the crocheted item.

CROCHET WORKSHOP also visually teaches how to crochet in a circle and make flowers, granny squares and several other things like edging. There are also some great patterns that go along with the new skills acquired from using this book. It is a one-stop shopping place for crochet technique. BRAVO!

This is a wonderful book. I have a number of crochet books, from Dummies to Idiot's Guides to Teach Yourself Visuually to others. This one is the best. The spiral binding makes it easy to refer to. The pictures show step by step what you need to do. It has stitches and color patterns I've never seen in any of my other books. And it takes you from beginner to intermediate/advanced step by step. I would recommend it to all beginning crocheters, and probably internediates as well.

I'm a beginner crocheter and I like what I saw in the book. Has hardbound spiral cover lies flat for working. Each workshop has a project. The projects are updated and fun. So many other crochet books are either technique or projects. This is both. The beginner isn't overwhelmed and the intermediate will find something too.

This is a great beginning crochet book. I have tried many and have given up several times. I recently got this book from the library to attempt once more, and finally feel like I'm getting a hang of it! I love the organization of the book and how it really begins with the basic steps, leading you to increasingly more challenging projects. I'm excited about learning how to make the little baby dress for my daughter. Overall, I think most of the projects aren't too exciting, but the clear instructions, pictures, and helpful tips along the way will lead you to new and more exciting prospects. I will definitely order this book to keep in my home crafting library.

Great reference material. I love this for the tips and workshops on apparel crochet, fitting, etc. Of course, I would expect a lot from Rowan, and I wasn't disappointed. I've made a couple of the projects, and will do more.
