Can't stop crocheting...,
By isala "Isabel and Lars" (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crocheted Socks!: 16 Fun-To-Stitch Patterns (Paperback)
This book is a gem! I'm not an experienced crocheter, but I'm already working on my second pair of socks. The instructions are so clearly explained that even when I'm left handed I don't have any problems following the patterns. My first pair of socks fit me so well, and are so warm... it's a delight to wear them, especially in the Alaskan winter!
While it is true the yarns the authors recommend are difficult to find, I have used other brands with no ill results; the only thing I had to do was to adjust the gauge. This book is an excellent buy. I highly recommend it.

Have some fun,

To me this book just screams "let loose, get goofy and silly" you won't find an ordinary sock patterns here, well maybe one (tennis sock) but even that one can be fun. If you are not familiar with making socks, be sure to read the introduction and Basic Sock in the front of the book as this can be a huge help in understanding the steps to creating a sock.

Crocheted Socks I can relate to.,
By Andrea D. Shuman (Hayward, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crocheted Socks!: 16 Fun-To-Stitch Patterns (Paperback)
These book is awesome. I never amagine crocheted socks with individual toes! or any crocheted socks that's comfortable enough to fit even when you wear shoes! I also like knitting, but I can crochet must faster than I can knit. With this book, it doesn't take as long to turn out a pair of socks compare to knitting them. Following these patterns are easy even if you use your own hand spun yarns.

if you love crochet _and_socks,
This review is from: Crocheted Socks!: 16 Fun-To-Stitch Patterns (Paperback)
You will love this book. THe instructions are clear and precise, the patterns are fun to look at (socks with toes!) and easy to do. I have made several pairs of these socks as gifts and they have always been well received. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to keep a pair I crochet for myself;)
Somebody brought up the problem of yarn, but I don't think this should be such a problem anymore. Many craft stores (A.C. Moore, Michaels*) sell sock yarn and you can also order it via the internet (Herschners**). The patterns work up quickly and it's just so _neat_ to have a pair of handmade socks - or so the people that I have given them to tell me. I recommend this book highly. * No, I do not receive a kickback from these people. **No, I don't receive a kickback from these people, either.

ALWAYS PLACE A STITCH MARKER IN THE LAST STITCH,
By
This review is from: Crocheted Socks!: 16 Fun-To-Stitch Patterns (Paperback)
I absolutely love this book. This book is a must have for you crochet library. I have made a couple pairs of socks and they turned out wonderful.I do feel there is one bit of instruction that is left out. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PLACE A STITCH MARKER IN THE LAST STITCH OF THE ROW YOU ARE WORKING ON(except heel). Move the marker up with each row. When you get to the *HEEL* instructions, never touch the marker.Leave in last stitch untouched until you get to the *GUSSET*. For example on page 16 under *HEEL*, sc 25 sts and leave your marker untouched until you get to the instructions for the *GUSSET*. Then they will have you place additional markers on the sides. When you get the instructions for the *FOOT* only remove side markers. Keep last stitch marker in place and move it with each row. Keep using the end of row stitch marker till the end of the project. By keeping your marker in place you sock will be alot easier. Have fun!

Best Sock Book EVER,
By
This review is from: Crocheted Socks!: 16 Fun-To-Stitch Patterns (Paperback)
I love to crochet and I especially like making socks (the kind you can wear with shoes, rather than slippers). I'd purchased several other books and tried a few free Internet patterns but hadn't found anything I really liked until this book. The patterns are easy to follow and the directions are concise and complete. I highly recommend this book!

You CAN crochet socks!,
This review is from: Crocheted Socks!: 16 Fun-To-Stitch Patterns (Paperback)
I recently got this book when I wanted to try making my own socks, since I dont knit and I was getting very jealous of all the ladies I know that knit beautiful socks :). This book has very good instructions and the patterns are easy to follow. You can even substitute fingering weight (baby) yarn if you cant find regular sock yarn. I have had a lot of people comment on my socks and ask where I got the instructions to make them and I have no problem recommending this book. Its worth it :)

real socks!,

This review is from: Crocheted Socks!: 16 Fun-To-Stitch Patterns (Paperback)
Very nice book! You MUST read the general instructions at the beginning to understand how the socks are made and how to fit them correctly to your feet, and you must be able to follow written directions (not the diagram kind of patterns). I've made 2 pairs of socks so far, one toe-up (Fancy Cuffs) and one top-down (Easy Does It). The patterns are interesting and not too difficult for crocheters with some experience. Beginners should start with easier projects, perhaps. You can crochet REAL socks from fingering-weight SOCK YARN, to wear inside your shoes, without all those little pointed knitting sticks! My knitting friends are jealous at how fast I can finish a pretty pair of well-fitting socks. Great book, I'm glad I bought it!

This review is from: Crocheted Socks!: 16 Fun-To-Stitch Patterns (Paperback)
I am an experienced crocheter, but have never made socks either knitted or crocheted. I found this book to be pretty easy to understand also, but found that some of the explanations in the instructions are vague. I feel that it could be a little more clear with some of the instructions for those that don't have any experience with making socks at all. It should also be mentioned that there is a stretch to the sock and to take that into consideration when making the socks. I made one sock using the dimensions stated and ended up with something that would have fit an elephant....so I tore it out and went down a couple of sizes -- worked out great.
