Book Description

May 1, 2007
A hip instruction book for needle artists

The new needle arts enthusiasts are young and hip. Most are either new to needle arts or are crossing over from knitting to crocheting and vice versa. The Crocheter's Guide to Yarn Cocktails presents crochet as a fresh and exciting leisure activity, dispelling any former notions of the hobby as grandmotherly. Each fun project in The Crocheter's Guide to Yarn Cocktails teaches a specific skill so techniques can be learned in easy increments. The simple patterns offer a mixture of techniques which are the ingredients for learning more advanced projects. Angled toward the younger, emerging needle arts enthusiast, each project is inspired in name and attitude by a popular drink. By completing a "Yarn Cocktail" pattern, the reader will have created a beautiful unique accessory or garment and mastered a new crochet skill, and be empowered to tackle a more challenging project. Each pattern is accompanied by a recipe for the drink that inspired it, encouraging needle artists to knit as a social activity. But remember, the authors' motto is: Yarn Over, not Hangover!

About the Author

Anastasia Blaes was taught to crochet by her grandmother at six 6 years old. Too rebellious to follow traditional patterns, she soon began designing for herself. Discovering that others were interested in her original designs, she sold original finished garments locally and in a baby boutique in Chicago. Anastasia has designed for such companies as Lion Brand Yarns and Jeanette Crews Designs. She is a member of TNNA and the Prince William Purlers knitting guild, where she served on the board as publicity chair for the years 2002 and 2003.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" for Crocheters, January 14, 2008
By

This review is from: The Crocheter's Guide to Yarn Cocktails: 30 Technique-Expanding Recipes for Tasty Little Projects (Spiral-bound)
This book has it all! There are great designs for all skill levels. If you can't remember a particular technique, there are "Refresh" pages that direct you to the techniques used in the pattern. If you are a beginner crocheter, the patterns are clearly marked as to level of difficulty so you don't get in over your head. If you are a Master Crocheter, there are technique combinations to excite you into trying out all the patterns. All through the book are tips, tricks, and guides to help you be the best crocheter you can be. And when you have finished your masterpiece, there are recipes for the actual "cocktails" for which the patterns are named so you can throw a cocktail party to show off your new crocheted creation.

Every pattern give the "generic" yarn to be used as well as the actual yarn that was used for the pattern in the book. This is really helpful for those wanting to use up stash yarns. There are patterns in every skill level for sweaters, vests, lingerie, scarves, bags, gloves, jewelry, hats, and more! Charts and drawings are clearly rendered and many of the patterns have instructions both written out and graphically given.

This book has something for everyone who crochets. It is definitely worth adding this book to your crochet library.
