Water leaks out from under the lid,
By E. A. Lovitt "starmoth" (Gladwin, MI USA) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

This Rival crock pot is my third or fourth crock pot. All of its predecessors eventually stopped working. However, none of them experienced the problem I discovered when I first used this model: The lid is too light to keep water from building up around the edge of the pot. Eventually the lid begins to float on a layer of hot water around the edge of the pot. I had to keep mopping the water away from the rim of the crock pot in order to keep it from overflowing onto the counter--and that water was hot, as it was condensing from steam. I was using the low setting, so I'm not exactly dying to find out how fast the water builds up when I set it to 'high.'The next time I use this pot, I'll try setting some kind of weight on the lid. If you purchase this model, beware of hot water leakage, and adjust for the fact that whatever you are cooking in the pot is going to be a little drier than you might have expected because of the escaping water.

WAY too hot!,

I had heard great things about crockpots, and bought this one. There are now 4 of us and I work, so the convenience sounded great. In 2 weeks I have used it 3x. Once for a thick bean soup, once for a chicken dish with fruit, and once for a beef in gravy dish. All were AWFUL because the darned thing just gets TOO HOT! In an hour or two everything was at what I would call a medium boil. With the chicken I came home, turned it to "warm" when I saw it was cooking 'real quick, and then took the dogs out. When I got back 45 mins later, the chicken was BOILING on "warm". I added large chunks of apples and they were all cooked very soft in about 15mins. Where's the SLOW in this slow cooker?

I've owned Rival brand crock pots since they've been on the market and wanted to replace my old one with this newer chrome model. From the very start I had problems with the water perking out of the lid and creating a mess on my kitchen countertop and floor. I tried placing a glass bowl upside down on the lid to hold it down but still had problems. The temperature seems way too hot for a low setting. Often my meal has completely dried out and burned. I usually put a meal on in the morning to have ready for dinner in the evening, but now cooking with this crockpot is a fire hazard. I've gone back to my old crock pot and plan to write the manufacturer. I wish I had read these reviews before I bought!

I Love It.,

I've had this crock-pot for about a year and I couldn't be happier. This was my first crock-pot purchase and I've done nothing but rave to my friends about it.I've read other reviews about Rivals getting too hot and the lids cracking. While the outside does get hot (why wouldn't it you're cooking in it for an average of 8 hours) the handles do not and I've had no problems with the lids. I use it regulary and put both the porcelain pot and the lid in the diswasher after each use (with no problems). I think it's a great, I use it constantly especially when I'm having guests. Every meal I've made in it has tasted wonderful!

TOO HOT!!!!!,
By Linda M. Chapple (Burbank,CA) - See all my reviews

Had the water problem as stated by other consumers. Waterpuddle in front of slow cooker and on the floor. Slip and fall danger. Not a small puddle at all. ALSO MAJOR temp problem. On LOW, my meat cooked in about half the time. 6 hours (3.5 lb. pot roast) recipe was for 10-12 hours. The warm feature was set by the manufacturer, still continued to cook my meal. Dangerous situation to say the least. The Hot temp on low and the water spewing everywhere happened with 2 different Rival pots. returned both.,

Even low runs way too hot. The exterior is too hot to touch and even the cord at the base is very warm. If by accident the pot was to touch paper or cloth or even too close to the wall, I'm afraid of fire. I think this model is dangerous. No one should go to bed with it on or leave the house with it on. I am dumping it. Too bad because it is a nice size and nice looking.

I have tried to cook two meals in this crockpot and both times, it burned my food. It cooks very hot even on the low setting. Do not purchase this item.

DO NOT BUY,
This review is from: Crock-Pot 33511-C Round 5-Quart Crock-Pot, Chrome (Kitchen)
Same as what the others are saying. It bubbles over and makes a giant MESS every time I use it. Even though the pot works, I have to buy a new one because the mess is so extreme everytime I use it.

Steer Away - Cooks Way Too Hot,
By
This review is from: Crock-Pot 33511-C Round 5-Quart Crock-Pot, Chrome (Kitchen)
As indicated by a number of other reviews, this unit runs way too hot. Recipes that call for 8 hours are typically cooked in 2, even on the low setting. I'm very disappointed with this model.
