5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product
This is another of Rival's excellent Crock Pots. The cooking levels are accurate and construction is excellent. I liked the glass lid (I melted the plastic lid of a former crock pot laying it on the stove top by mistake) and also liked the chrome styling as opposed to a frilly design. Hey, guys use these things too!

We had a Rival crock pot when I was growing up and it was a life saver to our busy family. When my mother purchased a new crockpot to replace her original olive green crock pot,one of the originals that still works, she purchased the chrome with the black crock because it looks nice on the counter. She owned the product but a few months when she realized that she didn't like it. The outside got so hot you couldn't touch it without being burned! One day she cooked a chicken in it and was planning to use the broth for soup. When she got home from work she went to pick up the crockpot to move it to a work space on the counter. When she picked it up one of the rivited on handles came off in her hand spilling hot chicken broth everywhere. Thank God when it spilled it didn't come toward her or she would have been seriously hurt. As a result she had to have her kitchen carpet cleaned and they had no chicken soup for dinner that night. I own a Rival crock pot that has molded plastic handles and the sides stay cool to the touch. I use it often as my mother did when I was growing up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a "Happy Cooker", September 13, 2002

Loved the slow cooker until the dial and handle cracked and fell off. It appeared the outside covering became too hot and caused the problem. I'm looking for something that will last a little longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars VM, January 26, 2002

This is a keeper! I love my new one. Very happy the old Rival finally gave up, so I could buy this one. It will cook a frozen roast, put in at 9am to be fork tender by 5pm.
I even cooked a pot of white beans in it. I did have to add
water one time. But I am cooking on high. If leaving home I
would turn it to low, which would need longer to cook.
It does get hot to touch because of the surround heat. But use
common sense with it, and you won't get burned. I love it.
It is beautiful on the counter, and cooks as well....

4.0 out of 5 stars I have the same brand, but different style, February 13, 2002
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3351C Round Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware, Chrome (Kitchen)
The one that I have is the one with the removable ceramic pot, but it is not chrome on the outside. I find that it does not get nearly as hot as you are describing the chrome one to get. I absolutely LOVE my Rival crock pot. I like the easy Off, Low, High control.(not a lot of margin for error there.) and having 2 kids, a husband and a full time job, getting home at 6:00 at night, is wonderful when I know that dinner is already made and will be cooked perfectly and hot. I have recommended this to all of my friends, and they swear by it, too. To keep sticking to a minimum, I use non-stick spray. Clean up is very easy this way.

I am a single man that loves to cook. The Crockpot is perfect for a dinner for two and left overs for lunch the next day.
The ceramic liner is sublime, my only regret is that the decoration design is totally hooky. Straight from the Fifties, I know there is a stainless steel one available but it defeats the perpose as it just generates heat.(And costs more!) Something like a simple band of green rather than the cute ivy please. It is 2002.

4.0 out of 5 stars lasting quality, May 2, 2001
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3351C Round Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware, Chrome (Kitchen)
I have owned this crockpot for several years and it has never let me down. Rival has been making these pots for a long time and that's why their products are better and sturdier than a lot of other brands. The glass lid and the sturdy, removable stoneware interior have seen my dishwasher many times and still look brandnew. The handles stay cool to the touch, and an incident as one other reviewer described where one of the handles came off has never happened to me or the other 2 people I know that own the identical product. It is true that the metal surface becomes quite hot, espeically if you run it on the "high" setting, but in my opinion that is not a big problem, since all you have to do is keep it in a safe spot while operating it. The biggest pro for the Rival is that their temperature settings are failsafe and correct. I prefer the simple off, low, and high dial over fancier models that leave more room for operator error resulting in undercooked food.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Rival Crockpot (model 3351), July 30, 2011
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3351C Round Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware, Chrome (Kitchen)
I bought this Rival Crockpot over 10 years ago when it was on-sale at Penneys. It was cheap. My old Crockpot (that I got from my mom) wasn't big enough to cook meals for a family of 4.

As I am a working mom, this basic (manual) baby has been used probably hundreds of times over the years. It is totally non-fancy and reliable. I have never had problems with cracking handles or other breakage that other owners have described here.

You can fix a great meal in about 20 minutes in the morning, and then at 600pm come home to a house that smells great and have a nice meal.

As others have said, this crockpot does get very hot on the outside. You have to just place it somewhere (like on a stovetop) where kids won't run into it. I have had no luck with setting it on "Low" because then it wouldn't cook anything... and the food might spoil sitting out on the counter all day. The only setting that works is "High" for 8 hours.

Overall, I would say that this older Rival Crockpot has been a very servicable and reliable appliance for us. I trust it enough to allow my college-age son to take it with him when he moves into his off-campus apartment this fall! That way, I can get a new, programmable slow cooker for myself!

3.0 out of 5 stars Problem with handles, December 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3351C Round Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware, Chrome (Kitchen)
Although I have no complaints about cooking in this crockpot - everything turns out just fine - both handles cracked and fell off. Makes it difficult to transport food to other locations.
