5.0 out of 5 stars Great for singles, too!
I'm single and live by myself, and I have found that this Crock Pot is an excellent way to have a really nice meal waiting for me when I get home from work. I can make enough to last a few meals, but the Crock Pot works great even with a smaller amount of food -- you just want to make sure you've got plenty of liquid in there. 2.0 out of 5 stars FIRE!!
I had one of these for 2 yrs and it was great. After the first year, the handle broke off the top. I contacted Rival and they said I could buy a new lid. Which I did. They send it and it is not the right size. Fortunately I was able to take the handle off the new one and put it on the old lid. Onto my next complaint... the lid and handle get extremely hot...

I can make enough to last a few meals, but the Crock Pot works great even with a smaller amount of food -- you just want to make sure you've got plenty of liquid in there. I use my Crock Pot all the time, and it has worked perfectly from the moment I took it out of the box. It is also quite easy to clean; even if you forget to clean it right away, a bit of a soak with hot soapy water does the trick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Crockpot for small family or single, October 4, 2002
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3735-WN 3-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker (Kitchen)
This is an excellent product. Crockpot is small enough for 1 but big enough to cook for a group. The outside of the crockpot stays cool to the touch while it makes your dinner.

Everyone should have one of these!

I have an older version of thed 3.5 quart crock pot, with nonremovable stoneware and no cool touch. It's great! Removable crockery is good for easier cleanup, though. I have tried other brands, but only Rival Crock-Pots work just right. After all, they are the original! This size is great for one- or two-person households, or for desserts and side dishes for larger households. Accessories are available: meat rack, small bake pan, dust cover, insulated carrying tote. I love coming home to a cooked meal at the end of the day, when I'm too tired to cook. It's great for making cooked fruit jams, fruit desserts, bread pudding, rice pudding. Of course, beans, soups, and stews are also excellent. Meats are better browned or seared before putting in the crockpot, to avoid that hospital food texture. The recipes are also much better than the 70's onion soup/liquid smoke/canned condensed soup variety. Let this "little old lady" cook for you all day!

Well a few weeks ago I pull my crockpot out, pour in my ingredients, and plug it in. I hear a loud pop and see flames and sparks fly out of the bottom of the crockpot. My husband grabbed a potholder and unplugged it from the wall. Fortunately our circuit breakers popped themselves off when this happened. I took the ceramic dish out of the crockpot and turned the base over to see what happened. The cord was actually burned right off the base at the connection point!! Thankfully we were home when this happened.
I immedietly called Rival since I have never gotten the base wet and always took care of the crockpot. They offered me a replacement crockpot, and to pay for the repairs from the fire on the counter. I did turn down the replacement product. I do NOT want another rival product in my house. Especially after finding out that this has happened to two other people I know!!
I went out and bought a Hamilton Beach, and I never ever leave the crockpot on when we leave the house anymore.
BE CAREFUL with RIVAL!

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect size, easy clean up, simple to use, November 10, 2005

I've had this crock pot for a few years, and wouldn't trade it for anything. The removable crock is easy to clean (you'd think it had a non-stick surface!), and with two settings, it couldn't be simpler to use. The oval shape makes it better suited for cuts of meat than a round one would be. This size is just about right for a small chicken or a 2-3 lb roast. Try this for an easy dinner: brown a 2-3 lb pork roast. Throw it into the crock pot and pour a jar of salsa over the roast. Put the lid on, set the crock pot to Low, and leave it alone for 8 hours. Serve the tender pork with potatoes and green beans for the perfect comfort-food meal, or scoop it into tortillas or onto sandwich rolls for a quick and hearty lunch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the right size for my family, February 24, 2006

This review is from: Crock-Pot 3735-WN 3-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker (Kitchen)
I bought one of these for my daughter for Christmas and I got this particular one because it had all the attributes she wanted. She wanted it to be small ehough for just two people and to be able to remove the bowl for cleaning. This was the ONLY one I found with those attributes. There were 1 qt. size that were too little and all the bigger ones for big families. After she got it she liked it so well that I bought one for myself and it works perfectly. I think the size for a small family and the ease of cleaning are the real selling points for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Cooker., November 11, 2005
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3735-WN 3-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker (Kitchen)
My oven has felt neglected for years. Between my crock pot, microwave oven and my toaster oven, my real oven has become a storage area for junk.

This crockpot is perfect for one person or a family. It makes even the toughest and cheapest cuts of meat tender and moist. I simply toss in the meat, veggies and potatoes and then leave the house. When I come home, supper is ready.

I like the two settings - low and high. The high setting really gets the cooking process moving.

Cleaning is a snap. If I don't wash it right away I simply fill it with hot water and let it soak. It cleans right up without scrubbing, even if there's some burned food on the bottom.

Last night I tossed in some chicken, sliced onions and a can of mushroom soup. Does it get any easier than that? It took five minutes of preparation to make a tasty meal fit for a king.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a single folks or small family!, August 12, 2005

I bought this item for my son who lives alone. He has had no problems with it and has used it many times. If high heat is used, the outside does get hot to touch but that is really no problem. This model is preferable over Rival's so-called automatic crockpots which get much too hot inside & out and do not automatically reduce temperatures properly.

I am a single fellow that has tried several recipes in this cooker. It is certainly straightforward and easy to clean but unless you are cooking something up that you intend on having a lunch and dinner leftover buy a smaller crockpot. It is bigger than I thought and cooks wierd if it's not full enough. Other than that it would be great if you're feeding four at a time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rival Crockpot 3 1/2 qt., January 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3735-WN 3-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker (Kitchen)
One of the reviews described this crockpot as cool to the touch. Even on low there is a spot that is hot. On high the entire outside is too hot to keep a hand on it. A bad feature that makes me uncomfortable leaving it untended all day.

Aside from that (which is a major consideration) I love the way it cooks, the design is attractive, and the size is very convenient.

Also, I have not been able to find out what is meant by the "auto-protect safety system"
