Looks Are Deceiving,
By A Customer
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3745SC Oval Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware (Kitchen)
Although the exerior of this product is a great improvement on the original orange, I was greatly disappointed that the beautiful stainless steel was not insulated from the heat. I burned myself twice the first time I used it. The old model was somewhat warm, but never hot enough to blister the skin at a touch. I would never trust it on the countertop with children around, so I returned it.

Rival - REE,

This review is from: Crock-Pot 3745SC Oval Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware (Kitchen)
A Christmas gift from my mom, whose twenty year old 3 quart has delivered many convenient and scrumptious meals, we shared excitement for Rival's advances: like the sleek chrome appearance, removable crock and the Programable cooking; high heat for 4 or 6 hours and low heat 8 or 10 hours, and Auto-OFF-to-WARM feature. However, I feel obliged to inform consumers, (and any Rival marketing reps who dare read on) of it's disappointing performance: The first surprise was the ill-fitted lid which I tilted, jiggled, and jaggled in an unsuccessful attempt to produce a seal. I should have stopped there right? The next shock - a scalding burn from merely grazing the exterior surface, just as other reviewer's had experienced. Another disappointment - cooking. Seems a paradoxical excess of heat conducted on the outer surface and absence of balanced, thorough heat on the interior created bland, dry and unevenly/undercooked meat. Oddly, rice was soggy closest to the edges of the crock, but became crunchy toward the middle. Despite reading the all provided manuals, following all directions, and using several of the suggested recipe's, this thing just doesn't work right. Even worse, breaking the news to my mom,who in blind faith said "Rival is the best there is", will be crushed.

Lid doesn't fit; liquid evaporates!,
By expatbear (London UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3745SC Oval Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware (Kitchen)
My last crock-pot was a cheapie metal one with a silverstone liner and a plastic lid, and only held about three and a half quarts. But man... everything I made it it turned out great! I was looking forward to this one when the old one croaked, but now I find that everything I cook comes out dry or just not cooked at all. My beans are dry, meats don't braise properly, it's a mess. It seems like the lid doesn't fit quite right, so there's no seal. I'm tossing it and trying one of the other brands, 'cause apparently Rival's just aren't as good as they used to be.

Watch out for the exterior,
By A Customer
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3745SC Oval Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware (Kitchen)
We got this as a wedding gift after I had registered for it, it was considerably more expensive then. I didn't have inordinate problems with liquid evaporation, but the stainless steel exterior does get hot enough to cook on itself. I don't have kids so I didn't have a problem keeping this, but do be aware of it. Between the exterior and the lid you need to wear a hot glove when you handle anything in the cooker. Other than that it was fine. One advantage to this cooker is that you can make a lot of food or a little, and you can even cook a whole chicken in it, which you couldn't do with the old round cookers. ...

A Nice Improvement On An Enduring Product,
By A Customer
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3745SC Oval Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware (Kitchen)
I bought this crockpot to replace my old circular Rival after it broke. Do I need to confess that I was taken by the sleek stainless exterior, spacious oval shape, and stylish black crock? My old crockpot was bright orange with a brown crock and I freely admit I felt a glow of pleasure when the knob broke off and it had to be replaced. This new crock works just like the old one, it just looks a whole lot nicer sitting on my countertop.

Wonderful! Easy to use!,

This item will easily pay for itself in a matter of weeks! Included in the box are simple recipes that will allow you to make a fantastic dinner for 8 people, (or dinner for one with lunch for a few days) out of the most inexpensive meats. I bought the Complete Meat Cookbook, and it is filled with braising recipes that I previously had no use for. I never had the patience for oven braising, and I hated the way the oven heated up the whole house. All these problems are solved with the Rival 3745SC. This crock-pot is very easy to use, practical, attractive and a good value.

Nice, but hot,
By "dbranka" (Ecorse, MI USA) - See all my reviews

This crock pot has met all of my expectations. This is my first crock pot with a removable crock. VERY nice (1) to remove for washing, and (2) to prepare a meal the night before, put in the fridge, and then put in the holder in the morning & plug in. My only negative comment on this item is outside gets very hot. You could easily burn yourself by touching the metal part (not the handles). I knew this before I bought it, as I had read the other reviews. As long as you're expecting the hot outside, you won't be disappointed in the crock pot.

I was truly disappointed when I received my slow cooker. The lid did not fit, therefore it can not be used.

Great crock pot,
By A Customer
This review is from: Crock-Pot 3745SC Oval Slow Cooker with Removable Stoneware (Kitchen)
Not sure what the earlier reviewers were thinking, but don't listen to them, this is a great kitchen appliance. One of the bad reviewers below just doesn't understand the purpose of a crock pot, and the other seems to be reviewing a different model. I've been using mine for over a year, with no problems. The removable stoneware is a huge plus, it allows you to prepare meals the night before in the stoneware, throw it in the fridge, then throw it in the crock pot in the morning. I highly recommend this inexpensive crock pot.

I've owned this Crockpot for approximately two years now. I've only used it maybe 5 times. From the time I got it, it's always gotten /extremely/ hot on the sides, hot enough to cause a burn. Fair enough, I'd just be careful with it.Well today, on use #6, it blew out my electrical outlet. I moved it to another outlet, and it threw sparks when I plugged it in. Although it worked OK, when someone moved it, it threw sparks out the back. ... |
