Everything you need in a slow cooker,

If you work all day and are responsible for feeding the trooops at home at the end of the day, you'd certainly be someone who'd get a lot of use from a slow cooker. Maybe you are like me and the one thing you DON'T want to face when you come home from the office is a pile of raw ingredients that somehow has to get converted into an edible state in less than 40 minutes. Not fun. Better to start your dinner in the slow cooker before you go to work and come home to the appetizing aroma of a nicely cooked meal. Slow cookers are energy efficient; the electricity consumption is something like a 60 watt light bulb. So what's not to like? Well, slow cooking isn't the same technique as cooking a stew or roast on the stove. If you don't know how to adjust a recipe, you will often get a raw or a watery mess. You should get a cookbook specially written for crockpots (check out Slow Cooking for Dummies) with hints on how to use the cooker (such as, don't keep lifting the lid, you'll dissipate the heat and your cooking times will be off.) This cooker comes with an optional insulating travel carrier. This is a really nice option for taking your cooker to potluck dinners, barbecues, church suppers and other events where you need to bring a hot dish. The slow cooker is MADE for these events as it can keep hot cider warm for hours or your tamale stew or Boston Baked Beans. I give this pot 5 stars for the optional travel carrier and also the removable liner, plus the cool surface. This has everything you need in a slow cooker.

Indispensable crock pot,

If you haven't seen your crock pot for a couple of decades, dig it out of the back of the gadget cupboard & try it again. If you're looking for a new one, this is an excellent candidate. I got this one when my old cheap-o crock pot finally gave up the ghost, and I use it continually. The cool-touch exterior really does stay cool (my old crock got so hot I had to move everything away from it while I was cooking -- what a relief to not have to do that anymore). Also, it's quite large, big enought to fit an 8-lb turkey breast. The lid is a good, tight fit, which is the most crucial thing in crock pot cooking. I'm loving mine, you'll love it too :-)

A Great Gift,

What surprised me about this crockpot its lightness. People who suffer from arthritis and/or carpal tunnel syndrome will have no problem cleaning this pot. Mine didn't come with a carrier, but it came with an order form which listed all the available accessories. So far, I've used it twice and am happy with the results. The food cooks evenly and the outside doesn't get hot. The first time I used it, I had to take the lid off and run my hand over what I was making because I wasn't sure the appliance was working. It was. I just wasn't used to the "cool touch" feature.I'd recommend this pot to anyone who wants a no-hassle appliance that cooks for a large family.
