5.0 out of 5 stars Why an OVAL pot?
Chicken, roasts and other longer-than-wide foods fit nicely into this pot. It holds one quart more than the 5 quart cylindrical Rival pot. For large crowds, this may be an added advantage, yet it is still a good size for the average family. So it is more flexible than the cylindrical 5 quart pot in how much it holds and what kinds of foods you can cook in it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Caution -- Glass Lid Splinters into Dangerous Shards
Rival is the top name in crock pots, and the durable, removable liner is wonderful for cleanup. The stay-cool sides are great.

BUT . . . The glass lids of Rival crock pots tend to splinter into dangerous shards, no matter how careful you are. Every time the glass lid makes contact with the crockery -- splinters of glass. I ordered this crock pot to replace a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Why an OVAL pot?, February 14, 2001

Chicken, roasts and other longer-than-wide foods fit nicely into this pot. It holds one quart more than the 5 quart cylindrical Rival pot. For large crowds, this may be an added advantage, yet it is still a good size for the average family. So it is more flexible than the cylindrical 5 quart pot in how much it holds and what kinds of foods you can cook in it.

The removable liner is a MUST! Normally to clean a crockpot, you must be careful not to wet the electrical socket or you run the risk of shorting it out the next time it is used. Here, you can remove the liner and clean it separately. A great advantage.

This pot also has an optional insulated carrier. I recommend this option highly. You'll appreciate it the first time you want to take your crockpot to a covered dish dinner or barbecue.

This has everything you'd need in a crock pot. That's why I give it 5 stars.

I bought this crock pot as a replacement for a 4 qt crock that was centuries old. Clean up is a BREEZE! Being able to remove the pot to soak is wonderful. The exterior stays cool to the touch. What more could one ask for?

Rival is the top name in crock pots, and the durable, removable liner is wonderful for cleanup. The stay-cool sides are great.

BUT . . . The glass lids of Rival crock pots tend to splinter into dangerous shards, no matter how careful you are. Every time the glass lid makes contact with the crockery -- splinters of glass. I ordered this crock pot to replace a previously-owned Rival, whose only defect was that the lid was splintering shards -- and BINGO! Even the brand-new one arrived with a tiny chip already in the base of the lid.

Rival Corporation, take note: I replaced this one with a beautiful Hamilton Beach 6-quart, which works just as well, cost a fraction of this price, and has a STEEL-RIMMED GLASS LID that will never be able to splinter glass into our food!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rival Crock Pot, September 27, 2002

I love this crock pot. During the winter months, I put ribs, stews, chili, soups or roasts in it. Then I leave for work and when I get home, the most wonderous aroma is filtered throughout the house. So why am I shopping for another? I dropped it on the kitchen floor and it shattered. So, as winter once again approaches - it's time to get my friend ready. This one is especially nice since you can take the crock pot out of the cooker section. Others I've owned wouldn't do this. The temperature settings are great too.

I have used this crockpot at home for several months now. It is easy to set the controls, stores well in it's original box, cooks accurately and washes quickly. Foods do not stain it.
I am about to take it to a family reunion in it's carrier. Check out the carrier. It is great, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Kitchen Appliance, June 6, 2002
This review is from: Crock-Pot 6-Quart Cool Touch Slow Cooker with Removable Pot, White (Kitchen)
What a wonderful crock pot and slow cooker!! For those that feel it is not a set it and forget it crock pot surely I feel you are wrong. I have used mine 2x's so far and can do nothing but rave about it.

The removable crock pot is easy to clean! I am excited to try the double bowls to make a variety of foods. I have made beef stew for the family it turned out so tender and flavorful taste better than any commercial canned soup. And I made a chili for my dog, he loved every last bit of it.

Why do I like it? Set it and forget it. You can put everything together at anytime and wahlla in about 4 1/2 hrs on high you've got a tasty tender flavorful meal. On low, in about 8 hrs you've got the same kind of meal. I also like it because of the size - 6 quarts is perfect for my family and dog meals. I can prepare enough to last a week and then freeze any unused items.

I love the 3 settings hi, low, and keep warm - all 3 work at the temps and levels they are supposed too. I have had no issues or problems with it so far. I plan on using it next week to make a rabbit stew for my dog. And then make a pot roast for my family.

I like the fact that you only have one pot to clean up and not a whole bunch of them like you do when you are cooking on a stove. It is a great heat saver when it comes to summer time cooking. It doesn't overheat the kitchen like an oven can and does!

I highly recommend this product to everyone. If mine broke at anytime I would not hesitate to replace it with the same brand

4.0 out of 5 stars I was pretty tired of burning off my own flesh, November 2, 2002

I just rediscovered crockpots. They formerly held the bad hippy childhood memories for me. But since we all have to grow up sometime, I bought a rival crockpot. First I bought the 5 quart from [another vendor]. It burned me. I said alot of naughty words.

(I won't tell you which ones.)

So, I returned it and used some aloe on my burn. This one seems identical to me. Except it doesn't burn me.

I have heard some people say that the cool touch doesn't cook the same way that the regular pot does, and I think that's a bit crazy. Tastes exactly the same to me. So there!

One of my friends said that the best slow cooker recipe book is the one that comes with the slow cooker. Now I know why all her dishes taste like they came from a midwestern protestant church's pot luck supper. Its a great machine, but I'd also invest in another slow cooker cook book when you get the book, otherwise you may be disappointed in your initial results. Unless you are a big fan of midwestern protestant cooking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed, January 27, 2003

We used this crock pot fot the first time yesterday. We cooked a 3 pound chuck shoulder pot roast with carrots, onions and potatoes FOLLOWING EXACTLY THE RECIPE THAT CAME WITH THE INSTRUCTION BOOKLET. It said to slice the potatoes THIN which is a must because after 9 hours cooking on low, they were STILL not done! We sliced the spuds 1/8 inch thick! The carrots, onion and beef were ok. The beef was slightly overdone. I found the pot to cook unevenly. Since you only add 1 cup of liquid, it is not enough to cover everything, so some things cook faster than others. Next time we will try cooking on high and see if it improves.
