A nice upgrade from the standard crockpot!,

This review is from: Crock-Pot 64451-C 6-1/2-Quart Oval Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I didn't want all the bells and whistles offered on some more expensive crockpots...and this one is just right. I enjoy being able to turn it down to just "warm" while serving and I really enjoy the removeable stoneware crock. The dark colored crock always looks clean inspite of the inevitable baked on food stains crockpots get after a few uses. The brushed chrome makes it look very classy and expensive and the glass lid is a nice upgrade from my prior plastic lid. It's extremely roomy and great for a pot roast or whole chicken with the oval shape. I didn't feel all the programming options available on some units was necessary...my crockpot just cooks all day while I am at work, and it's ready to eat when I get home! I'm very happy with my purchase.

I recently found out that Rival Crock Pots contain lead in the glaze. Because of this I can no longer recommend this item.

Use it correctly,

I had a previous rival and had problems with the lid cracking as another reviewer found out when talking with the company. Lid cracking is not a problem with this one, but more steam does escape. After scorching three meals, I READ the DIRECTIONS and they clearly state that the crockpot needs to be half full in order to work correctly. Since I have done that, it has worked great. If you are only cooking for two, this will not work as you will have way too much food, but for families this is a great crockpot and it works well. Just remember that it needs to be half full in order to make up the loss of the liquid due to the new design.

Cooks way too hot!!,

Don't buy this crockpot! It cooks way too hot on all settings. I used it 4 or 5 times and ruined every meal that I cooked in it. The outside gets fire hot too. Poor excuse for a crockpot!

I have made some great meals with my new Rival 64451-C crockpot, I love it! My food comes out perfect, never burned. The lid is glass and heavy enough to keep the steam in. I suggest that before you rely on the overall star rating alone, you read each individual review, and ignore reviews that are rating the wrong product. For example, if a review discusses the programming aspect of this crockpot, and that the pot always burns the food, the wrong product is being rated. This crockpot does not have the programming capability, so the wrong product is being rated. The Rival "Smart-Pot" crockpots are programmable, and these "Smart-Pots" also burn your food if leaving food for "all day cooking", even if on low. The "Smart-Pot" crockpots cook hotter and faster, even Rival acknowledges this. I previously owned a "Smart-Pot" and used it for 10 hour slow cooking. It burned my food every time, even when putting in large whole potatoes and carrots. I returned it and bought model 64451-C, which is the nonprogrammable slow cooker and what a difference! For reviews stating the food is always burnt, I wonder if they are talking about the "Smart-Pot" crockpots. If your model 64451-C does burn your food, or have too much steam escape, it may just be a defective pot. Return the product if you've owned it less than the warranty period and get another one (Rival told me it was acceptable to return it to the store you bought it at as long as it's within the warranty period), so that's what I did with my "Smart-Pot" I owned for 11 ½ months under a 12 month warranty.

Received my new Rival 64451-C 6.5-Quart Oval CrockPot a few weeks ago and love it! It is a very nice upgrade from my 20yr old round model with the plastic lid. My old crock still worked fine but was starting to worry about leaving it unattended for long periods of time because of its age.
The new oval model is really great because it can accomodate many sizes/shapes of roasts and chicken. It also stays cooler than my old model and I love the glass lid. Everything I've cooked has turned out wonderfully and I have not had to add additional liquid since the glass lid is heavier and it does not let steam escape. I wish folks would check exactly what it is they are reviewing before giving a low grade for something that is not even part of the current model, ie., ill fitting plastic lids, etc. This is not fair to the manufacturer of a perfectly good and upgraded appliance. Receiving low marks on the incorrect item just isn't right. I see this happening more and more. Its upsetting that you can't rely on the "star" rating without reading ALL of the reviews, usually to find that some moron has rated the wrong item and unjustly brought down the score. READ BEFORE YOU REVIEW!

I bought this crockpot after my last crockpot bit the dust 15 years after I began using it. This Rvial crockpot LOOKED nice, but the metal outer unit gets so hot, the handles and temperature control knob disintegrated within a couple of months of use! I tried several times to contact Rival about knob and handle replacements, but received no reply.

Best Crock Pot I have owned,

We own a 4 quart crock pot, but it is too small for some of the foods we liked to cook in it, and we have a large family. We researched several large crock pots and finally decided on this one because we got the most for our money. It has a keep warm option, which most of the older crock pots don't have. I find this option to be wonderful. You can cook a 10 lb pork shoulder in about 12 hours on low, and it fits entirely in the pot. We are very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone.

Good product, until it died,

We were really fond of this crock pot until it stopped working. We've had it about two years and were pleased with it, especially the quality of the pot itself. However, just last night we put some meatballs and sauce in there to slow cook and when we came back to stir, we found it wasn't working.
I took it apart and it seems the wires connecting the power source to the heating element had corroded to the point of just coming apart. Unfortunately, due to the tenacity of the plastic sheathing over the wires, there was no way to repair it without really ripping the wiring out. Pretty disappionting.

This crockpot cooked much hotter than my last crockpot, so I am unable to use it as it burns my dinners prior to my arriving home. I need to cook dinners for at least 8 hours, and this one was just too fast for me to use, so I purchased another one that works better for me.
