Searched for hours through the various reviews and was frustrated by the mediocre ratings of really expensive and not so expensive slow cookers. Wanted away from manual controls which sometimes get turned to a setting between clicks and the cooker doesn't heat up. This one is perfect. Doesn't overheat and doesn't under heat. Timer sets with a single push of a button and after cooking there is a keep warm feature that automatically kicks in. Black crock doesn't show stains and the lid is double vented and has a gasket that works. Bought what I thought to be stainless steel but it is actually bright chrome. Makes great meals. If there is negative, the cooker is a substantial size, so make sure you have the counter space (or storage space)!!

My previous slow cooker was a Crock Pot manual version, but the stoneware busted while we were moving. I'm a review fanatic, and my knee jerk reaction was to start browsing the reviews on Amazon before purchasing a new one. I really liked the unique, updated look of this one, so as a Kitchen Designer - naturally I gravitate towards the aesthetics. That, combined with the high reviews, sold me on this model.
Pros: - If you have existing stainless steel appliances, and/or are looking for something a little more 'updated' - this slow cooker will look extremely sharp sitting on your counter top. I've had two of my girlfriends already ask where I got it, and even my husband commented on the cool factor compared to our last slow cooker. - I've cooked 4 meals in this so far (went a little slow cooker crazy the first week!) and all have cooked perfectly. I personally don't feel that this one runs 'too hot', which is a complaint many have about the newer crock pots. - The digital countdown timer is a big plus. Something I didn't know I really even needed or would want, but now that I have one, I cant see going back to a manual slow cooker. I believe there is also a manual version of this particular model for $10 or so cheaper, and I have to say spend the extra money if you can for the count down timer. For as many times as some of us use our slow cookers, you will appreciate having it. Manual will do the job, but I get pretty busy and sometimes forget how long x meal has been cooking or what time I started the meal. - Cord storage! Didnt even realize it had it when ordering, but it was a pleasant surprise! - Fold away handles. They fold out far enough where it keeps your hands from ever having contact with the heat of the crock itself should you need to move it around, and quickly fold back down . - Did I mention it looks cool on your countertops?! :D Cons: - This may or may not be a con, but I have a feeling it might be for some. The stainless steel is polished and mirror-like in quality almost. Not a brushed steel, therefore fingerprints may be a little more visible. Good news is, a swipe of a paper towel quickly gets rid of them. - There is an initial plastic/electrical smell the first time you use it, but my husband and I determined its from the base/heating element of the crock pot, and not the stoneware or lid as I've read with some complaints of other slow cookers. It was gone after a few hours of use, and never seeped into the food. If you have concerns about the potential smell, I would recommend plugging it in somewhere well ventilated outside of the kitchen and letting it heat up for a few hours. I have a two year old, so I popped the garage open, and let it run out there so it could dissipate just to be safe. No smell afterwards whatsoever, and definitely no odd tasted left in the food or stoneware since. - The outside gets does get pretty warm, so I would make a mental note of that if little kids are around. (It definitely wont leave a burn on your hand, though) Overall, would definitely buy again! I'm pretty finicky when it comes to appliances, but this one for sure passed the test in my book!

I purchased this Crock-Pot after doing a lot of research and for the money spent, I think I hit it spot on. It cooks like a dream and I would definitely put it up beside the more expensive brands. The only problem, and it's not really too much of a problem, is that it is huge. So if you don't have cabinet or pantry space in which to store it, you may have to leave it sitting on the counter. It is a little bulky (and heavy when full) to take out to pot-luck dinners also. One more thing-- I think I am going to have to be careful with the bottom of it as the four "legs" may get chipped without careful handling. They are made out of hard plastic. What I consider to be a be a big plus with this model is its retractable cord. As I have found true with all the other models, there was really no convenient method to get the cord out of the way for storing when it was not in use. This one just stores inside the base and you pull it out when ready to plug it in. If you are looking for a new one, this may be the one. When I came across this model, it was one I had never seen before and I have looked a lot of places. I personally feel you can't go wrong. It has all the qualities we have come to expect in a Crock-Pot plus a few more. If you are looking for a pot you can brown a roast in on the stove top then slow cook in the same pot , this is not the one for you. This one cannot be used on the stove-top. For my needs it is perfect. Thanks Amazon for the good price and once again for offering this quality product.

Disappointing,

I purchased this slow cooker and used it several times. It had an unbelievable stink, and the outside of the cooker would get very hot. The owners manual said the smell was normal and would go away after the first few uses. The third time we used it - after several hours it popped the circuit breaker - luckily we were home and we reset the breaker - at which point the cooker promptly had an electrical short from the bottom (nice flash.) It burned thru the plasctic bottom and that was it - cooker was dead. No damage to the counter top, but we sent it back and will order a different brand.
I rated this one star due to the smell and the fact that it broke. Feature wise - it's actually a good cooker and if it didn't have these problems I'd have given it four stars.

My wife and I receive a 5 quart slow cooker from Crock-Pot over ten years ago as a wedding gift. We used it very frequently and was very pleased with it. We recently upgraded to this model, the designer series 6 quart. It is worth the extra money. It will pay off in the long run. There are virtually thousands of recipes that you can use to throw together a dining bonanza via the Crock-Pot. The digital interface also allows some versitility on cooking preferences. It will switch to warm automatically. Get it.

I was a little worried when I first purchased this item. I was basing it almost completely off of reviews, but the reviews are accurate. I love the handles, they are sturdy enough (I was afraid they would be flimsy and not able to support the weight of what it was holding)and I love the base. It does take up a little more room than your standard crock pot, but it doesn't get burning hot like other ones so I don't have to worry about my kids being near it. I love that! It is worth a tad of space. It cooks efficientlty. When I was cooking a whole crock of beans, it just didn't look like it was doing much for awhile, but they cooked just fine in the time alloted. It is classy looking and works great! The plug in storage in tbe back is a plus too! The crock is black and so it doesn't show staining which I really love too! I am perfectly happy with this product.

does exactly as it says. does NOT over cook the food as the previous ones we had did. LOVE the seal on the lid so you don't have the "spatter" on the counters.

I bought this crock pot to replace the one that I gave my daughter and at first, I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not (while programmable, the settings themselves are somewhat limited), but it works great! The sirloin roast I cooked in it last night turned out perfect: tender and juicy with a wonderful flavor (granted, most of that was the choices I made in seasonings and veggies, etc.) but still the crock pot didn't overcook the roast as I've had problems with in the past with other crock pots. Very impressed so far with this crock pot and would recommend it to anyone.
One side note: It's also the most sophisticated-looking crock pot I've seen that's under $100. It looks great sitting on your kitchen counter! If you tend to be a kitchen gadget snob (like me), this product is definitely going to interest you. :-)

This is by far the best crock pot we have ever owned. I love the collapsable handles. Also, the ability to recess the power cord into the base of the pot makes for great storage. The controls are easy to understand, and it cooks great. I highly recommend!

I bought this as a birthday present for my mother.. she LOVES it. She has used it at least 4 times a week since she got it.
I've tasted the meals she has made in it and they are superb. I highly recommend this product. |
