Amazon.com Product Description

Enjoy healthy, home-cooked meals even with a busy schedule thanks to this easy-to-use oval-shaped slow cooker. With its generous 6-quart capacity, the unit works great for cooking up soups, casseroles, pot roasts, curries, and more. Simply add ingredients to the unit's stoneware pot, insert it in the electric base, and choose from low or high heat settings. The simple control knob can also be set to "keep warm", which keeps cooked food at the perfect serving temperature. The slow cooker comes with a dome-shaped tempered glass lid that drips moisture back into the pot and allows for keeping an eye on the cooking process. The oven-safe stoneware pot can also be used as a baking dish, and it features a decorative border of raised leaves on its outer rim, which makes it a useful and attractive serving piece as well. Integrated stay-cool side loop handles allow for safe transport, and the pot with its Rinse-Clean stick-resistant coating, along with the glass lid, cleans up easily by hand or in the dishwasher. The slow cooker measures approximately 20 by 9-2/5 by 14-3/5 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous to use!, January 23, 2006
By
On-G-Cute (Rochester, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crock-Pot SCE600-EF 6-Quart Oval-Shaped Manual Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen)
Contrary to the August 29, 2005 reviewer's comments about "operator
error", this crock pot truly has a problem with heating at too high of a level, to a point of being dangerous (and yes, I did read the instruction book!). I have been using crock pots for 26 years, and never had any meals burn. This particular pot burned each of the four meals I made with it, and I used recipes which I have been making for years in my older Rival model of the same size. The last straw was when I came home to a somewhat smokey kitchen caused by a meal which burned after only 4 1/2 hours of cook time on LOW (I suppose the HI setting would be useful for launching rockets to the moon?). Had I not come home until closer to the usual 8 to 10 hours cook time for that particular recipe, I might not have had a home to walk into!

I agree with reviewer J. Jarrard - my foods burned primarily on just one side of the crock. The heating element is not only too hot, but it also heats unevenly.

I have read in other reviews that in recent years Rival has set the temperature of their pots higher for food safety purposes. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, what other options are out there (i.e. - other brands, or perhaps other Rival models which don't have this problem)? Thanks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Good for Me, August 8, 2006
This review is from: Crock-Pot SCE600-EF 6-Quart Oval-Shaped Manual Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen)
I got this crock at Costco for 39.99 (I got the black model) and from the beginning it has been fantastic. I believe there would be issues with people not using the right amount of food in this one though, since it is so big...the smaller amount of food will cook faster and may burn, like the oatmeal I tried overnight. It just was not filled enough.

I do not use it while I am away during the day, because I am just nervous about malfunctioning appliances in general, but I do use it every weekend for roasts, soups, stocks, chili, etc. It makes amazing BBQ ribs - better than my husbands, who has a big outdoor smoker!

I bought the cook book "Not Your Mother's Crockpot" and love it too...this book is not the "dump a can" kind of cookbook - you need to prep for it, but great recipes. This cookbook also is careful to tell you what size crock to use. Like I said earlier, it pays to read that part, since the recipe said to use a small crock pot and I ignored it and used my 6 qt.

I would say the only criticism is that the sides do get hot, so I put it on a large hot plate when I cook with it. I have not had problems with the lid. It is not precision fitting, but steam does not leak out, and it is very quiet. All in all a great product, and I am honestly hooked and thinking about a smaller one for my overnight hot oatmeal.

1.0 out of 5 stars First Crockpot I've used that burns food!!!, February 11, 2005
By
This review is from: Crock-Pot SCE600-EF 6-Quart Oval-Shaped Manual Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen)
I bought this Crockpot at Wal-Mart and cooked one of the recipes from the booklet that was included (pork chops with rice). The lid did not fit securely - it left gaps in the front and back allowing steam to escape. When I came home the food was burnt, but only on one side of the crockpot. The heating element must be uneven. I didn't try any other recipes, just returned it to the store!
