1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE of plastic hinges and handles, October 4, 2008
By
Amazon shopper (Pennsylvania, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crock-Pot SCVS605A 240-Watt 6-Quart Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen)
WARNING TO ANYONE ABOUT TO BUY A RIVAL SLOW COOKER WITH A PLASTIC HINGE OR HANDLE ATTACHED TO A GLASS LID: My slow cooker was 18 months old when the following happened. The plastic hinge cracked apart where it attaches to the glass lid and is now unusable. There are two bare screws sticking out of the glass lid. (It was such a nice feature to be able to flip the lid up to serve food and not have to find a spot to set the lid down.) Upon further inspection, I found that the plastic handle on top of the glass lid has cracked half way across and is about to totally break. Once this happens, the lid will be totally useless. I never placed the lid or the stoneware in the dishwasher; they were always washed by hand. As far as usage, I used it once to twice a month.

I contacted Rival's customer service. I was told that since my slow cooker was past their 1-year warranty, they would not send me a replacement hinge or handle. They did offer me 25% off a new product, however.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality, November 16, 2008
This review is from: Crock-Pot SCVS605A 240-Watt 6-Quart Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen)
This is a beautiful crock pot. Unfortunately, it is not good quality. The hinge broke off almost immediately but I lived with it. Then the ceramic insert cracked. I thought it was something I had done but then when I went to replace it I found 27 reviews where the ceramic insert cracked. This is a defective product. I am not sure why they still sell it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Diasppointed in this Crock, July 9, 2009
This review is from: Crock-Pot SCVS605A 240-Watt 6-Quart Slow Cooker, White (Kitchen)
My hinge broke after the first use, but I was willing to live without it. Unfortunately, after the third time of using this crock, I noticed a very pronounced cracking sound coming from the lid of the crock. Where the hinge was once attached, the screws were left to cause the glass of the lid to slowly crack from exposure. Also, the screws attached to the metal part of the crock were becoming increasingly hot because the insulator of the plastic hinge was no longer there, which meant I was afraid of getting severely burnt.

I tried taking it back to where I purchased it, and they were not able to offer any remedy because I had used it three times despite this purchase still being within the 90 day refund with a receipt period. Alas, I kept the stoneware but threw away the hazardous parts. I'm not sure what I will do with the pretty stoneware because it doesn't fit well in the new slow cooker. Perhaps, I'll drill a hole in the bottom and make a planter out of it.

On the whole this is a good product. My only problem with it is that the hinge broke within three months of purchase.
