4.0 out of 5 stars This bread cookbook is a "keeper"
I have a number of breadmaker cookbooks, but this is one of the best. I would recommend it highly. I have tried several of the recipes since I purchased it, and all turned out just great. Easy to understand and use--recipes consistently turn out great!! Give it a try--you won't be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but note this flaw
I've made some bread from this book very successfully, but the gingery bread has a mistake in the amount of water. I had it on the timer and woke up to find a lump of dry junk. It needs 1 cup instead of 2/3 cup water. If you look at the proportions, this is obvious. The Paremesan tomatoe bread was great, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's easy and you can eat it!, August 7, 1997

I have many bread machine cookbooks. This is by far the best. The recipes are quick, easy and delicious. Most use ingredients that I have on hand. Recipes that require milk use powered milk and water. It's convenient to keep that available. Substitutions work well with these recipes. The pizza dough is great, banana chocolate chip is to die for and the cottage dill is wonderful. Cinnamon-raisin toast with peanut butter is worth waking up for. Honest

Since buying this book I have made at least one recipe each week. It is by far one of the best and most used bread machine books I own. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of my three favorite bread machine books., November 24, 1997

I have great results will nearly every recipe I've tried so far. The only failure to date may have been the result of lame yeast. The ranch dressing bread gathered rave reviews and the works well with most creamy style dressings ( Dill veg dip/dressing or blue cheese make wonderful loaves ). I like having versions for both small and large loaves as well as the roll, bread stick and other dough recipes. My current copy is getting kind of dog eared from use. I would have scored the book higher if it had a lay-flat binding. Lots of good recipes that are well proven.

3.0 out of 5 stars many easy great-tasting recipes made with ordinary ingred, June 26, 1998

This book is so reasonably priced for the wealth of great recipes it contains. I rank a good recipe book based on how many recipes in it are actually feasible for the average person to make simply and without having to search for rare ingredients, this one definitely fits the bill!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Buy, February 7, 2007
This review is from: Betty Crocker's Bread Machine Cookbook (Betty Crocker Home Library) (Paperback)
This book is dated (1995), but it has really good recipes. I have four or five other bread machine cook books, but I use this one the most. Mainly because I like making the smaller one pound loaves and all of the recipes in the book are for 1 and 1 1/2 lb loaves which is perfect for one or two people. The book includes recipes for toppings and spreads and popular dough recipes like pizza dough, rolls, and doughnuts. The book is also layed out well with color photo's, a brief introduction, and tips on producing the perfect loaf.

I make bread at least twice a week, and I have made quite a few of these recipes and all of them were delicious. This is a small book compared with some of the others that have hundreds of recipes, but it has more than enough to keep one's interest. I've been using it for about 5 years and haven't tired of it yet! This would be perfect for those who have the bread machines that make one pound loaves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, useful cookbook for easy homemade bread, February 10, 2003

Using a bread machine is inherently simple, and this cookbook doesn't complicate matters. A brief introduction includes a glossary of ingredients, helpful hints, and troubleshooting tips. Two main sections - "Classic and Savory Loaves" and "Special Grains and Sweet Loaves" - include dozens of recipes, all with instructions for 1-pound and 1 ½ pound loaves. A third section includes recipes that use the bread machine to knead the dough, which is then further processed by hand and baked conventionally. A final chapter includes interesting toppings. Every recipe I have tried has worked well. The use of dry milk in recipes requiring milk allows most recipes to be made with the bread machine on a timer. The book is illustrated with attractive photographs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good (for the most part) recipes, December 25, 2000

All the recipies I have tried have worked with the exception of one: the Ranch Dressing Bread. It was horrible. But the Pepperoni Pizza Bread is great, one of my favorites.

Also beware of the Harvest Vegetable bread - the hard dried vegetable chunks took the non-stick coating off the bread paddle.

I was so happy when I found this book on Amazon. We have moved several times and lived overseas for several years and this book was a staple in my everyday life while there. Upon returning home to the US while unpacking my cook books I discovered that the book, along with several others, had been eaten by the mice. My family was very upset to discover that I did not have the recipes to make their favorite breads. I surprised each of them with several loves of their favorites. The looks on their faces was just priceless when they began to devour some of each loaf.
