I was really pleased with these when I first bought them. They are bright and fun and go great with the dishes of the same design. However, after only a month of normal use, the colors are starting to flake off. I can't believe it. I have used them as directed and they have only ever gone from the table to the top rack of the dishwasher, but clearly they cannot take it. I'm not very happy, considering what I paid for them.

The dishes and bowls look fine, so I guess my only recourse is to start washing these by hand. I wouldn't have bought them if I would have known I would have to do so.

Added 8/2010: I have had these cups for 2 years now and I have to say that, after the initial wear they showed, they never deteriorated after that. With daily use I never did end up hand washing them, so I have to give them credit for holding up after what must be at least 100 dishwasher cycles. Because of that I've upped my star rating from 2 to 4. They're not perfect, but they're cute and quite usable after all.

I am really disappointed in these and would not buy them again. After only a couple months they became very scratched from dishwasher use. Not very appealing. I am going to try the melamine cups from Zak Park.

These were very cute and matched the melamine plates I got. BUT the plastic cups are already losing there pattern/scratched after only a few dishwasher runs. And they aren't melamine, like the plates, so I dont know if they are BPA-free or not (my fault for buying them, I guess). They say they "conform to or exceed U.S. and European safety standards" whatever that might mean so they are likely NOT BPA-free. I will probably try to find new ones.

I have to agree with the previous review. Don't put these in the dishwasher. The plates and bowls are fine but the cups become clouded.
