I bought the plates, bowls, and tumblers of this set along with those from the dinosaur design, and I am very happy with my purchase. They were a little pricey, but it was a relief to throw out my mishmash of character plates and disposable cups for a clean, unified collection, as well as to finally have kids' flatware I wasn't embarrassed to serve at a company dinner.

I also think these will last for several years, at least. Besides being large enough to easily serve young children as well as toddlers, the colors seem to be under the finish, and it doesn't look to me like these will flake over time. So far they have survived the top rack of the dishwasher very well.

If these were microwavable I would have given them an unabashed 5 stars, but it doesn't seem like melamine plates are in general, so perhaps you trade the convenience of glass for the safety of plastic. All in all, I am very pleased with this bright, classy, unbreakable set.

...Updated August 09. Unfortunately, these were not quite as durable as I hoped. They do scratch and some of the color has flaked off the matching cups. Also, one of the plates broke into 3 pieces when knocked off a counter. I'm glad it didn't shatter, but I'm surprised it broke at all.
