Editorial Reviews

Crocodile Dundee: Paul Hogan's hilarious, endearing performance made "Crocodile" Dundee the biggest box-office comedy smash of 1986 as a free spirited Australian who hunts crocodiles with his bare hands and drinks mere mortals under the table. But he's about to face the ultimate torture test--a trip to New York City. Crocodile Dundee II: Mick and Sue continue where they left off in "'Crocodile' Dundee". New York gangsters are pursuing Sue, so for her safety, Mick takes her back to Oz. When the gangsters follow them, Mick demonstrates his outback skills once more.

The CROCODILE DUNDEE/CROCODILE DUNDEE II DOUBLE FEATURE is a double feature movie set that contains the first two Crocodile Dundee movies.

Although he was a fairly well known tv star in Australia, Paul Hogan was a virtual unknown in the United States. Then, in 1986, along came CROCODILE DUNDEE and Hogan became a huge international movie star who also helped make Australia a dream vacation destination for millions of Americans.

Hogan stars in the movie as Mick Dundee, a part Aborigine crocodile hunter who doesn’t hunt for fun. Sue Charlton (Linda Kozlowski) is a New York journalist on assignment in Australia. Before coming back home she’s trying to track down a local man from the very small town of Walkabout Creek who supposedly had part of his leg bit off by a croc, but managed to survive and crawled out of the Outback several days later. She eventually meets the man who the story is about and he agrees to take her on a journey to retrace the steps of that episode. This leads to some hilarious moments in the Australian wild with Sue, but the story takes an even more interesting turn when Mick agrees to accompany Sue to New York City where he explores the urban jungle.

Hogan was not only the star of the movie, but he also created the story and co-wrote the screenplay. The chemistry between himself and Kozlowski is exceptional and it really came as no surprise that the two eventually ended up in a very long term real-life romance with each other.

CROCODILE DUNDEE was a major surprise hit when it first was released. Other than some 1980s fashions with Sue and the people in New York, the film remains fresh and vibrant a quarter of a century after it first came out.

When Sue Charlton (played by Linda Kozlowski) heads out into the Australian Outback, she thinks she can face anything. However, the first unbelievable thing she encounters is Michael J. “Crocodile” Dundee (Paul Hogan). Mick’s a modern-day Tarzan who thrives in one of the most primitive and dangerous parts of the planet. What could be more delicious than bringing him to New York City? This is just the start of a wild and interesting ride. And when a Columbian drug lord comes gunning for Sue, Mick decides to show him what life can be like in the Outback!

These are a pair of great movies! The stars do a great job of bringing their characters to life and making them entirely believable. The stories themselves are nice and entertaining, with lots of action and comedy and romance and wonderful scenery – they have it all! They are a pair of good, rather family-friendly movies that are sure to please! I highly recommend this DVD set!

This comedy classic is even better at higher quality. Having both I and II in the same set it definitely a plus. (I thought III was a waste.)

Two great movies at one great price. The Blu-ray picture quality was pretty darn good as was the soundtrack.

It's Crocodile Dundee, it's Blu-Ray, so how can it be bad?

The transfers of both films looks clean, and on my 60" set, it's like watching the films in the theatre again.

The '80s were all about fish-out-of-water films, and one of the most successful was "Crocodile Dundee," an Australian comedy-adventure starring Paul Hogan. The first half is all about a "Jane" journalist roughing it in the outback to get a story on a Tarzan-like fellow who's a bit of a local legend, while the second (and more fun) half we see Dundee in New York City trying to survive in the urban wild . . . and make friends in the process. The sequel is more of a standard crime story about drug lords trying to recover incriminating evidence and Sue and Mick caught in their crosshairs, but even that one picks up in the second half when the bad guys are the fish out of water after following Sue and Mick to the outback. But when you have a double feature like this it's easy to think you're buying one good film (grade B) and getting a bonus film (C+) thrown in. Both films look terrific in HD, by the way—FamilyHomeTheater.com

Although these films were made in 1986 & 1988, respectively, my wife & I still enjoy them, and watch them about once a year or so.
