This movie is great if you want to learn more on how he started catching crocs and about his family. They also explain about how he got married and Steve and Terri's baby. It's a good one to get!

4.0 out of 5 stars What a beauty!, July 19, 2000
This review is from: The Crocodile Hunter - Steve's Story [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Steve Irwin is a man who genuinely enjoys his job (and life) with a passion. Steve's life (all 38 years of it, anyway) is documented in this hour-long Animal Planet video, from catching his first crocodile at the tender age of nine to the recent birth of his daughter Bindi Sue. Steve is becoming a worldwide celebrity due to the popularity of his show The Crocodile Hunter that he hosts along with his wife Terri Irwin.

Steve possesses an inhuman amount of onscreen energy, but that only adds to his charm, eyes wide with excitement and his boyish grin that he gleefully flashes at the camera. Not to mention the ever-present khaki shorts and hiking boots and Outback slang like "Crikey!" "Flat out like a lizard drinking" and the infamous "She's a beauty!" His love for reptiles and all animals is evident in the interviews. An interesting yarn, complete with childhood photos and interviews with Steve's parents.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Crocodile Hunter tells his story, November 5, 2004
This review is from: The Crocodile Hunter - Steve's Story [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If watching the Crocodile excites you and you are looking for more crocodile action, this is it with a nice history lesson on Steve.

It is easy to believe that Steve Irwin caught his first crocodile at the age of nine years old. While he was growing up he would search for reptiles at the Zoo and in the brush to show his father to make him proud. Both of Steve's parents are interviewed in this story discussing his interest in cold-blooded reptiles and recounting his younger years.

Home videos show Steve climbing up trees and stopping to pick up reptiles whenever he was out with his parents. While the rest of the family would be getting ready for a Holiday, Steve would be out and about with the reptiles. Someone always had to go find Steve to bring him home and the most difficult part of the Holiday jaunts was keeping an eye on Steve.

Steve got his first python for his sixth birthday, a twelve footer! The family lived in a caravan for a few years while starting a wildlife park. It turns out Steve was born on his Mother's birthday. He talks openly about his love for his parents and the warm feeling he has each year on his birthday. They even show Terri having their daughter and Steve talking about taking the baby all around the Hospital to show everyone there.

There is home footage of Steve and his Dad going in a boat at night down the river for their crocodile hunting. This one time at the age of nine, Steve was up in front with the spotlight and jumped on the crocodile. He recalls this is the most exciting moment of his life. It just so happened that the crocodile was about the same size as Steve so his Father than got in and pinned both Steve and the crocodile in the boat. It is amazing that someone was shooting this throughout the water wrestling!

If you are used to watching the Crocodile Hunter on television than most of this video will be of no surprise. My six year-old son loves Steve and can watch this repeatedly. I must say it is a bit much for me, but I am not a fan of these reptiles and crocodiles.

By watching The Crocodile Hunter: Steve's Story you will go through many emotions as you cringe each time a crocodile comes out of the water or Steve jumps on one, or kisses a snake! Listening to the Australian accents and watching Steve as a lanky youngster mesmerized by snakes and slimy creatures is an adventure in itself. This will be one video you can skip the popcorn, or else it might land in your lap or on the floor.
