The book is a chronicle of the 1898 U.S. invasion to Puerto Rico as seen by a puertorican doctor who live in the region when the invasion ocurred. The book is redacted after 100 years by his granddaughter Dra. Luce Lopez Baralt. She is now professor at the University of Puerto Rico.
