so much more than an album,
By
This review is from: Crooked: An Album (Hardcover)
I really don't know where to begin with this book. there is so much to it. the music is so good as always, with the track flooding being one of my favorites out of all of kristin's songs!!the book itself is a thing of beauty, something that when you hold it you know is unique and to be treasured. with its amazing full page photos by lisa fletcher and essays and lyrics to each song by kristin. this is an important book to have if you have any interest in music because its a first in music history. now onto the web content. you get the album but you also get two EPs with it. you also get a sample from her new book Rat Girl: A Memoir links to places to discuss the music with kristin and other people involved a really cool video(shot by her children)with the title track played over it. and one of the highlights for me. a commentary by kristin and her husband billy. which has a lot of technical music stuff that I didn't really understand. but what I did enjoy about it was that it was just a chat between a husband and wife who sound like they're best friends. there are lots of jokes and little friendly bickering moments and a scary frog, which kristin tells you where it is and invites you to go and see it if you're brave enough :) I think this is worth a 100 times the very small amount they are asking for so scroll up the page and buy it. you will be enjoying all the little bits that come with this for years, I know I will!!!

This may be the best work Kristin Hersh has ever done, and is certainly her best since the Throwing Muses album University about 15 years ago. Crooked, Krait, and Flooding are each incredibly powerful songs that everyone should experience. The presentation is also really cool--what other artist would include a commentary track on an album?! If you have any interest in Kristin Hersh, the Throwing Muses, or any music, you really should hear this album.

A gorgeous endeavor. An album as a book that is beautiful as the eyes of the woman who created the music. It is full of pretty pictures and essays and her words. Don't hesitate. You decipher a quick puzzle to link to all of the free content which includes the full Crooked record and the tracks before and after (demos and reworked tracks). There is much more as well. The short film on her vimeo account is just amazing. This is worth every penny. Kristin will always be an original and irreplaceable as an artist.

As always, Kristin Hersh has put together something she can be proud of. This time it is visual as well as musical. This is up there with my favorite KH solo albums.
