5.0 out of 5 stars This album is great, October 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Crooked Autumn Sun (Audio CD)
I can't believe this record. I caught these guys when they were on tour and have been waiting for it to finally be available. Some of the best music I've heard in a long time. Everyone I play it for is amazed and wants to borrow my copy. I'm not eager to give it up though. Incredible guitar work, beautiful, layered production with organs and spacey sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seminal work from what remains an underground band, December 26, 2007
This review is from: Crooked Autumn Sun (Audio CD)
If you like rock n roll, then you owe it to yourself to drink from this fount. 'Nuff said.

I saw Rick Bain and the GP with the Dandy Warhols in Denver in 2000. Despite the fact that I had never heard a lick from this band, I was one of a handful of people on the dance floor in complete ecstasy as they opened for the Dandy's. I went and bought this album from their merch table in the front of the venue before the Dandy's even started. Everyone I was there with was blown away by their show. Oh yeah, the Dandy's were good too ;).

This record is one of my favorites ever. Rick Bain (and the GP) rock as hard on this record as they do live. If you don't own this album already, you must buy it. It is not only rockin, but beautiful. An AMAZING MASTERPIECE. OWN IT.

4.0 out of 5 stars Genius is right!, July 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Crooked Autumn Sun (Audio CD)
I was at a Brittpop club with my friends one night playing pool, and this band came on to play live in the next room, all of us looked up and immediately went to see who it was. It's not often that a unfamiliar live band captures our attention like that. We were glued. My sister finally found the CD on Amazon, and we have been singing it's praises ever since! It's rich, layered and unique. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

What an incredible album! It's addicting sound calls you to play it again and again, each time enjoying it more than the time before. I given away my two previous copies and just ordered one more. I look forward to their next album and hope to see them live in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rick Bain and The Genius Position don't mess around, October 20, 2000

I know what you're saying, sitting there in your comfy computer type area. "I'm bored with all those bands that try to pull the 'rock thing' off with snappy words and snarrled looks catered to the medicrity of the American middle class, which is unable to handle a truly great American band. I want a band that rocks, period. A band that takes me on a spiritual ride through the murky depths of human despair to the highest eschelons of heavenly nirvana--in one song, in one record. I want to feel the music I'm hearing, and hold it close to my heart like a sonic sweatheart true love. And I want to laugh and dance and--most of all--I want to ROCK. I want to live, not be clumsily told that I exist in someone's pocketbook." And to answer your plea, I say buy this record from Rick Bain and The Genius Position, as it's what you need in spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs.

5.0 out of 5 stars There's No Off Switch On The Genius Position, August 18, 2001
This review is from: Crooked Autumn Sun (Audio CD)
A great album full of clever surprises. I caught these guys live in Portland, Oregon a while back. An impressive show comprised of explosive rock coupled with delicate gloom. Their music has a distinct Genius Position sound not like any other of modern rock. Rick Bain brings an ostentatious style of confidence swagger, with lyrics such as, "You're probably thinking about me right now. So I am". This album is definitely a winner. I can't wait to hear what's next from the Genius Position. (Go Pfau)!
