More About the Author

Carolyn Keene and Franklin W. Dixon are the pseudonyms under which many ghostwriters penned the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series, respectively. Both series were created by Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate book packaging firm, in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Stratemeyer's daughter, Harriet, and syndicate writer Mildred Wirt Benson were the two people primarily responsible for bringing the iconic character of Nancy Drew to life in the minds and hearts of millions of readers around the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrifically Interesting: Don't put it down, September 5, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Crooked Banister (Nancy Drew Mystery Stories, No. 48) (Hardcover)
Nancy really has to have a gallon of ideas to solve this mystery. I think that the house is very neat, but very crazy. I never knew what was going to happen. This should be one of the top ten Nancy Drew books.

I have no clue why but this book so has to be my favorite Nancy Drew. It really leads up to an unsuspecting ending which so keeps you in suspense for like the whole book. I totally reccommend it to anyone looking for a good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Crooked Banister, October 6, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Crooked Banister (Nancy Drew Mystery Stories, No. 48) (Hardcover)
This book is by Carolyn Keen. It's titled The Crooked Banister. A wonderful mystery waiting to be explored .This book is about a zigzag house and its mysterious features. It will have weird thing happening and sad things appear. Many people try to solve a mystery and get in to HOT water! The main character Rawley lives in this extraordinary house, and he leaves clues to help others figure his house out. Some swindlers during the story try to cheat people out of their money, in frightful ways. Check out this wonderful mystery of suprises!
I think this book is very exciting, especially when the moat catches on fire. Also when Nancy finds thousands of dollars hidden in a secret place inside a wall! If you like adventurous and mystery stories I think you should read this book. My opinion of the best part is when, George and Burt slide down the banister. Into a wall where they find a secret passage way where they find some really weird suprises!
Some parts of the story are hilarious, especially when the robot comes into action! By doing a little Karate, you know HI-Yah! If you are into funny stories that just take a few days to read, get this book right off the shelf.
