A Kid's Review on July 13, 2011
Format: Kindle Edition
Two kits are born in the middle of a storm and Riverclan rejoices. The kits are two future warriors, destined for greatness. No cat is happier then their mother. Stormkit is her handsome, brave, little warrior and a Oakkit is the oldest and named after the oak that protected her in the storm while she was kitting. Then, Stormkit decides to take an adventure when he gets knocked into the river and brakes his jaw on a stone.

No longer the handsome kit, his mother casts him aside and demands that Hailstar cruelly renames her kit Crookedkit. Oakkit is the special one now but nothing stops Crookedkit from loving and supporting his brother. Oakpaw receives his warrior name Oakheart while Crookedpaw ramains an apprentice. But Crookedpaw is the fighter and hunter because secretly he's receiving special training from Mapleshade, a starclan cat, or so he thinks...

Then she asks him to be loyal to his clan above all other things... She asks him to Promise... Crookedpaw renamed Crookedjaw promises, of coarse he would be loyal. Why not promise it to receive training? But he doesn't know that promising means Mapleshade will slowly kill off his loved ones because they "distract" him from his loyalty. Then he discovers a dark secret about Mapleshade and Crookedjaw's world shatters.

I really enjoyed this book! Whats awesome about it is if you have read Bluestar's prophecy you know that there are some parts with Bluefur and Crookedjaw. In this book you see things from Crookedjaw's perspective not Bluefur. That's really cool and I recommend this book!!!!!!

Crookedstar's Promise gives some insight into the life of RiverClan and the life of the titular character, who is widely regarded in the books as one of the greatest leaders of all time. It's not as well written as Bluestar's Prophecy, but the more original plot twists more than make up for it. There is plenty of doom, sadness, and drama, and the romance is really sweet. Crookedstar loses the affection of his mother after the accident that disfigures his jaw and leaves the Clan, only return months later. As he struggles to be accepted back into the Clan, a stranger he assumes is a StarClan cat walks in his dreams and tells him that if he promises to be loyal to his Clan above all else, then he will become great. But the stranger uses this promise against Crookedstar, forcing him to watch as the cats he loves are killed in some way by the stranger, who is in this manner executing her revenge against RiverClan.

If you miss the good old days of Warriors where cats didn't have superpowers and StarClan was mysterious, but want something more current like the Dark Forest, then you will absolutely love Crookedstar's Promise.

(Spoilers)

Two kits were born, their names; Stormkit and Oakkit, named after a storm they were born in, and named after a tree they were born in. When they were a bit older they went out to explore, they went across stepping stones and hid, Goosefeather scared the kits, they ran off, Stormkit tripped and broke his jaw.... when he woke up he was in the medicine cat den. He couldn't sleep in his mother's nest because Rainflower said, "No", he was renamed Crookedkit.

When Oakkit was named "Oakpaw", Crookedkit went to search for the moonstone, and he saw the white and orange cat at the river and asked if he would keep his promise, "To put your clan first." He promised, and he lived with a loner/rogue and helped their family, once he made it back to camp and had to prove his loyalty before he would become an apprentice. He proved it and became Crookedpaw, when there was a dog attack, Willowkit (Willowbreeze) was already Willowpaw, Crookedpaw made a plan they chased it, and got rid of it. Willowpaw and Crookedpaw/jaw handed out a lot, alone. And he ignored the cat he made a promise with, he loved her to much.

When Crookedpaw became Crookedjaw, he was a warrior, and all the training with that "good" cat was great. When Hailstar's deputy had died, Mapleshade had sent an "omen" and Crookedjaw was named deputy. Willowpaw had become Willowbreeze, Hailstar was on his last life, they had to get rid of rats, the killed them, but Hailstar had died. Hailstar said he would be a great leader, they dragged their dead leader back to camp, and sat vigil.

Crookedjaw got his leader name, Crookedstar. He mated with Willowbreeze, they had three kits. Minnowkit, Silverkit and Willowkit. Willowbreeze caught greencough, and so did Willowkit and Minnowkit.

I would give 5, but far to much mistakes. Names displacement, calling a 'paw by the warrior name, or calling a warrior a 'paw. Also saying, graypool crossed the clearing. Problem. This is befor graypool existed. Also, raggedtail's name magically changed to silverhawk. Huh, strange.

This book was amazing. Easily my favorite Warriors book. It's also the sadiest. At one part I was in the car with a couple of friends, and one of them asked me why I was sobbing!

Anyways, the book starts as a flood sweeps through the RiverClan camp, at the same time Crookedstar's mother, Rainflower, starts kitting. Her mate, Shellheart, and the medicine cat, Brambleberry, get her into an oak tree. She gives birth to two kits, who she names Oakkit, after the oak that sheltered her, and Stormkit, after the storm that drove them there. Shellheart then remarks it was a shame that they couldn't both be leaders of RiverClan.

As the next chapter starts, it becomes clear that Stormkit is very adventurous, and, Riverflower, instead of scolding him when he falls off a brach sticking over the river and needs to be rescued, she praises him for being brave.

Sometime later, Stormkit and Oakkit sneak out of camp, and go over to SunningRocks. The current ThunderClan medicine cat, Goosefeather, is there gathering herbs, andStormkit decides to try annd scare him off. Instead, Goosefeather chases them back onto the Stepping Stones, and Stormkit falls and slamms his jaw on a rock. A tortoiseshell cat apperes in the water in front of him, and tells him it is not his time to die.

Stormkit later wakes up in the medicine cat den, and finds out he broke his jaw. His mother, Rainflower, refuses to see him, and has Hailstar, the current leader of RiverClan, change Stormkit's name to Crookedkit.

Soon, Oakkit is made an apprentice, but Crookedkit is not. Feeling like he has no place in RiverClan any more, he runs away, wanting to go to the MoomStone bit instead staying at what in the future will become Barly and Ravenpaw's farm.
